Retiree Council shares news, notes

Issues — retiree submissions sought for CSA Retiree Council discussion
The Fort Huachuca Retiree Council is soliciting retiree input on issues to present to the chief of staff of the Army Retiree Council.

The Fort Huachuca Retiree Council, or RC, meets quarterly to discuss issues concerning the Army retiree population. To date, the RC has not received any issues that could not be resolved locally and warrants submission to the CSA Retiree Council. Those who believe they have an issue that warrants review by the Fort Huachuca RC and consideration for forwarding to the CSA Retiree Council should send the issue to retired Command Sgt. Maj. Mike Roberts at mi33csm@icloud.com not later than Dec. 5 in the format shown below:

  • SUBJECT: Short phrase that describes a single subject (e.g., Eliminate the SBP/DIC Offset). Do not combine several topics into one issue (e.g., Move Ahead the SBP Paid-Up Date and Eliminate the SBP/DIC Offset).
  • DISCUSSION: Concise discussion of an issue that impacts the retired community. Issues should not be those that can be resolved at the local level or that are not within the jurisdiction of the Department of the Army to resolve or influence.
  • RECOMMENDATION: Include a brief recommendation for solving the issue.

TRICARE is minimum essential coverage
FALLS CHURCH, Va. — The Affordable Care Act, also known as the health care reform law, requires individuals to maintain basic health care coverage — called minimum essential coverage. Beginning in 2014, those who don’t have minimum essential coverage will have to pay a fee for each month they aren’t covered.

The TRICARE program is considered minimum essential coverage. Those using any of the following health plan options already have the coverage required by the health care reform law:

  • TRICARE Prime
  • TRICARE For Life
  • TRICARE Prime Remote
  • TRICARE Reserve Selec(if purchased)
  • TRICARE Prime Overseas
  • TRICARE Retired Reserve(if purchased)
  • TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas
  • TRICARE Young Adult (if purchased)
  • TRICARE Standard and Extra U. S. Family Health Plan
  • TRICARE Standard Overseas

Health Insurance Marketplace
Those who qualify for one of TRICARE’s purchased plan options only meet the requirements for minimum essential coverage if they purchase it. Be sure to check that you’re getting the most affordable coverage for you and your Family that best meets your needs. Compare TRICARE’s purchased plan options with your employer’s health insurance or other civilian options offered through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

The Health Insurance Marketplace is a new way to find health coverage that fits a person’s budget and meets their needs. With one application, a person can see all available options and enroll. Open enrollment began Oct. 1, with coverage beginning as early as Jan. 1. Search online or call 1.800.318.2596 to learn more.

Remember, most TRICARE health plan options already meet the requirements for minimum essential coverage.

Retiree Appreciate Day cancelled
Due to ongoing budgetary constraints, the Nov. 9 Retiree Appreciation Day was cancelled. The Fort, the Retiree Service Office and the Retiree Council regret the cancellation. Information concerning next year’s RAD will be forthcoming once a date is established.

FH Retiree Council meets quarterly
