62nd Army Band presents ‘Sounds of Holidays’

Soldiers of the 62nd Army Band play Christmas songs with a jazzy rhythm in the halls of Buena High School after their holiday concert. The band members performed for the audience both before and after the main event. Santa, Mrs. Claus and an elf also made an appearance in the school hallways to hand out candy canes.

What would a holiday concert be without a special man in red and his missus? Santa and Mrs. Claus played by Bob and Andrea Dunlap, band member friends, hand candy canes to concert-goers at Buena High School Dec. 11.

Historical Tour of Homes presents unique ways of holiday decorating

A 1956 silver punch bowl from the Fort Huachuca Officers’ Open Mess decorates the dining room table in the house of Maj. Gen. Robert Ashley, commanding general, United States Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, and his wife Barbara. The main floor of their home was one of 11 on display during the 21st annual Historical Tour of Homes along Brown Parade Field Sunday.

A handcrafted display of a snowy Brown Parade Field captures one’s attention in the kitchen of the Pershing House, occupied by Maj. Gen. Robert Ashley, commanding general, United States Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, and his wife Barbara. The scene was located alongside an elaborately crafted gingerbread house, both made by Amy Monnard, wife of Col. Mike Monnard, 111th Military Intelligence Brigade commander.

A coin tree decorates the coffee table in the living room of Maj. Gen. Robert Ashley, commanding general, United States Army Intelligence Center of Excellence and Fort Huachuca, and his wife Barbara. The annual Historical Tour of Homes, now in its 21st year, is one of several annual fundraisers organized by the Fort Huachuca Community Spouses’ Club and attracts hundreds of curious visitors eager to see the homes and decorations.

Adding an extra touch of detail to the historic home exterior, attendees of the Historical Tour of Homes are greeted and assisted at the each door by members of the Tombstone Vigilantes, dressed in period costumes. This group has volunteered their services for this event during all of its 21 years.
