Apply for FHCSC Scholarships

The Fort Huachuca Community Spouses’ Club is offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors and adults in continuing education. They are open to children and spouses of U.S. military members, Department of Defense Civilians, National Guard Members and Reservists assigned to Fort Huachuca, or Family members of retired or deceased military. Youth must be 26 or younger.

Scholarship forms for high school seniors are available through guidance counselors at area high schools. Applications are available for download on the club’s Web page, www.fthuachucaspouses.com.

Application submissions must be postmarked by March 8. Mail them to: FHCSC, P.O. Box 12202, Ft. Huachuca, AZ 85670.

CDC parking lot construction

The New Beginnings Child Development Center parking is under construction until approximately mid June.

A temporary parking lot and parent drop-off can be accessed by taking “H” Street.

Parents should remind their children that, for their safety and the safety of the construction workers, children are not to jump the fence to access the ball fields nor cross the parking lot.

Hospital pharmacy service disruption

The Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center Pharmacy has installed an updated automated dispensing system to expedite the filling of patient prescriptions.

Today: Pharmacy remodeling takes place. The pharmacy is open but construction may cause delays in filling prescriptions.

Monday: Pharmacy is closed for equipment testing and staff training on the new system.

Tuesday: Pharmacy resumes normal operations.

Blood drive takes place Tuesday

Armed Services Blood Program personnel will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesday at Eifler Fitness Center. Blood drive appointments are limited to the first 175 donors.

PWOC meet weekly

Protestant Women of the Chapel meet Tuesday, 9 – 11:30 a.m., at the Main Post Chapel. There is watch care available for children 6 months – 4 years old. There is also a Bible study on Tuesday evenings, 6 p.m., at Kino Chapel. Watch care is not available.

Installation Retirement Ceremony set

The first quarterly installation retirement ceremony for 2014 takes place today, 4 p.m., on Brown Parade Field to honor retiring military and civilian personnel for their service. The public is invited to attend.

FH Tax Center to open

The Fort Huachuca Tax Assistance Center’s grand opening is scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m. It is located in Building 22324, Christy Avenue, and will operate 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. weekdays, on an appointment basis only.

Cyber Safety, Security training set

Fort Huachuca’s Community Health Promotion Council in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation will present two sessions of Cyber Safety & Security training in the Fort Huachuca community. Sessions are scheduled for noon – 1:30 p.m. and 5 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Clyde’s Room at Murr Community Center. Attendees will get expert advice on keeping themselves and children safe on the Internet and learn how to increase their own Internet awareness.

This presentation is for adults only.

Military Powerlifting Competition planned

Active duty military are invited to compete in a Military Powerlifting Competition, Feb. 1, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Eifler Fitness Center. Registration is underway.

BOSS plans Superbowl Party

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers will hold a Superbowl Party for Soldiers in advanced individual training and Families Feb. 2 at Murr Community Center. Doors open at 2 p.m., and kick-off begins at 4:25 p.m. There will be free appetizers and popcorn, a pay-as-you-snack bar, an XBOX 360 and prize giveaway.

LSS Black Belt Course offered

The Electronic Proving Ground is sponsoring a Department of the Army Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Course, BB14029, on Fort Huachuca. Class dates are Week 1: Feb. 25 – 28; Week 2: March 25 – 28; Week 3: April 22 – 25; and Week 4: May 20 – 23.

Requirements for attendance: have your organization’s approval; have a project loaded in PowerSteering; and be registered in ATRRS. This course is open to all federal employees and active duty military. There is no out-of-pocket cost to attend.

Prep now for Green to Gold

The Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Green to Gold Division Commander’s Hip Pocket Scholarship Program provides selected Soldiers the opportunity to complete their baccalaureate degree requirements and obtain a commission through participation in the ROTC Scholarship program. Each year division commanders can nominate deserving Soldiers for two- , three- and four-year Green to Gold scholarships. Units are encouraged to nominate Soldiers under their command who have exhibited the potential for further outstanding service to America and the Army as commissioned officers. Interested Soldiers should to follow-up with their chain of command.
