Contestants sought for Rotary Student Speech Contest — deadline approaching

Rotary International District 5500

SIERRA VISTA — Rotary International District 5500 is sponsoring a student speech contest, open to all high school students, grades 9 – 12, with preference to those who have successfully completed the Rotary Youth Leadership Program.

The purpose of the Four-Way Test Speech Contest is to foster ethics in everyday life, as well as in business. The contest is designed to introduce high school students to the Rotary principles of ethics and service, and to involve local Rotary Clubs with the youth of their communities. It also is aimed at encouraging young people to learn to express themselves well in public. In nearly every profession, the ability to express one’s thoughts and ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively is an important skill.

The speech must be five to seven minutes in length. This year’s topic is “The Impact the Application of the Four-Way Test had, or might have had, on an Important Historical Event.” The preliminary contest will be held at Buena High School on March 27 – 28, and the District Finals will be held in conjunction with the Rotary District Conference in Tucson on April 26.

Cash prizes for local top winners are $125, $75 and $50. Cash prizes at District level are $1,000, $500 and $25.

Additional information and entry forms are at the Rotary Club of Sierra Vista website, http://www.rotarysv.org/. Application deadline is March 14. For information, contact 459.7399 or jbritton1@cox.net.
