FMWR Briefs – February 28, 2014

College rodeo here tomorrow, Sunday

FMWR, the Sierra Vista Riding Club and Cochise College will host the Cochise College Rodeo at Fort Huachuca’s Wren Arena Saturday and Sunday.

Gates open at noon, and the rodeo starts at 1 p.m. both days. Sunday, cowboy church will start at 10 a.m., and Exceptional Rodeo will start at 10:30 a.m.

The rodeo is open to the public and will feature saddle and bareback bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team roping, bull riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. Children of all ages can enjoy Barney’s Backyard Barnyard Free Petting Zoo from noon – 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

Active duty military and children 5 and under will be admitted free. Tickets for the general public will be on sale for $8 at the gate.

‘Friday Night Magic’ set for March 14

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, or BOSS, will present “Friday Night Magic” Game Night March 14 from 6 – 10 p.m. at Murr Community Center.

Murr plans Mardi Gras Zumba party

Murr Community Center will host a Mardi Gras Zumba Party March 15, 8 a.m. – noon. Everyone is invited to join them for Zumba Gold from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. and Zumba from 10 – 11 a.m., with instructor Ximena Aponte.

Visit the health and fitness vendors, enjoy light refreshments, and win giveaways, including prizes, for the best costume. Cost is $10 per person.

Vendors are also needed. Cost is $20 per table. Anyone who is interested can call Murr at 533.2404 for more information.

Dine at TMAC for lunch

Thunder Mountain Activity Centre personnel invite everyone to join them for their lunch buffet, now served Tuesdays through Fridays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Cost is $8.95 for adults or $4.50 for children 5 – 11. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Youth classes available at SKIES

Child, Youth and School Services SKIESUnlimited Program personnel offer several youth classes, including computer, gymnastics, piano lessons, cooking, karate, tae kwon do and dance.

CDC offers evening child care April 5

New Beginnings Child Development Center will offer “Parents Night Out” April 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. Reservations will be taken Monday – April 5.

Charges of $16 per child apply. Children must be registered with Child, Youth and School Services.

SFA schedules 5k walk/run

As part of the ongoing Community Health Promotion Council Family Fitness Series, the Sports, Fitness and Aquatics branch will present a 5K walk/run March 29 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Grierson Pool parking area.

This free event is open to everyone. Participants may pre-register at Barnes Field House, Eifler Fitness Center, or register on-site the day of the event.
