The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation offers scholarships

Mountain Vista Communities, or MVC, officials remind Fort Huachuca housing community residents that applications for The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation, or TMOEF, scholarship are now being accepted for the 2014 – 2015 school year.

In its 24th year, TMOEF invites all high school seniors and graduates who reside in on-post Mountain Vista Communities-managed housing to apply. Those eligible should be pursuing some form of further education at a college, a trade or professional school, or an institute.

For this school year, TMOEF has committed $225,000 thus far, to be awarded in June.

Since 2009, TMOEF has given 21 awards to Fort Huachuca residents, totaling $61,100, according to Jolene Cooper, marketing outreach coordinator, MVC.

Several of those awardees were previous recipients so reapplying is encouraged.

According to their website, TMOEF funds are raised through the financial support of corporations, companies, Families, private trusts and individuals known throughout The Michaels Organization business network. In addition, Michaels’ Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Levitt and his wife Pat contribute $2 for every $1 raised by the Foundation.

Applications can be found at www.themichaelsorg.com, and must be received no later than May 16. Awardees will be announced in June.

Mail completed application, official grade transcript, essay or presentation and two reference forms to: The Michaels Organization Educational Foundation, Attn: Dr. Bruce W. Johnson, 3 East Stow Road, Suite 100, P.O. Box 994, Marlton, NJ 08053-0994.

Cooper notes that on the application, the unit and tenant number is not needed and can be left blank.

Recipients are awarded based on academic performance, character and proficiency, or potential proficiency in a chosen field of study.
