Recently General Myer Elementary School held Jump Rope for Heart. The students who participated raised $1,000 for the American Heart Association during this event. Top fundraisers were Austin and Aiden.

Amy Wolfe’s and Kim Tomlin’s reading groups were divided into literature circles. Each group took a novel, read and completed summaries, and then created book trailers. Students premiered their book trailers at a red carpet event. Students were then able to vote for their favorites.

Students in second grade are learning about caves. Each class will be going on a field trip to Kartchner Caverns this month and next.

In math, students have worked on measurement, time, and money. In reading, students have discussed the differences between fantasy and reality; as well as reading about how things grow and change in the stories “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle and “The Ugly Vegetables” by Grace Lin.

This month, all second grade students will be taking the Stanford 10 Standardized Test.
