Celebrate Military Child with FMWR

Celebrate the “Month of the Military Child” tomorrow, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre.

There will be activities for the entire Family, including games, paintball, giveaways, information booths, horse lead-arounds, free lunch, popcorn, Barney’s Backyard Barnyard Petting Zoo and more. Youth can also register to win one of 10 free bikes.

Advance circus tickets on sale now

FMWR will present the Carson & Barnes Circus April 16, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., at the Anderson Events Park next to Thunder Mountain Activity Centre.

Advance tickets are on sale now at Murr Community Center and Sierra Vista Ace Hardware for $12 for adults and $6 for youth 2 – 11. At the gate, the cost will be $16 for adults and $10 for children. Those under 2 will be admitted for free.

Register now for duathlon

Applications for the 2-10-2 Duathlon are now available at Barnes Field House and Eifler Fitness Center. The event is set for May 3 beginning at 7 a.m. at Brock Field.

The course consists of a 2-mile run, 10-mile bike ride, and 2-mile run. Registration for active duty is free through April 15.

After April 15, cost for active duty and all others is $10 per individual, $20 per 2-person team, and $30 for 3-person team.

Plan to attend Festival of Southwest

The 2014 Festival of the Southwest is set for April 25 – 27 at Veterans’ Memorial Park, Fry Boulevard, Sierra Vista. The festival is open to the public, and there is no admission charge. There will be attractions for the entire Family including the City of Fun Carnival, with rides for all ages.

Advance carnival tickets are on sale now at Murr Community Center, Fort Huachuca, Buffalo Wild Wings, Sierra Vista, and Sierra Vista Ace at the price of $9 for 10 tickets. During the carnival, the cost will be $12 for 10 tickets. Wrist bands are also available at all locations, for the price of $22 per day. During the carnival, cost of wristbands will be $25 per day.

Calling all ‘dog people’

As part of the Festival of the Southwest, the 5-kilometer Mutt March will be held April 26 starting at 7:30 a.m.

Bring your pet and participate. Cost is $10 for pet and human. Refreshments and a t-shirt are included, while they last, and the awards for Sierra Vista’s 7th Annual Pet Idol competition will be presented. Pet kerchiefs may be purchased separately for $3 each. Also, vendors will offer pet-related items, services and information.

Festival will offer free, live entertainment

The Festival of the Southwest will offer free live entertainment all three days including: April 25, 7 – 11 p.m., “Nightlife” country and dance band will take the stage.

April 26, 7 – 11 p.m., “Kool Katz” will perform music from the 70s and 80s, plus Top 40 Hits.

April 27, 3 – 5 p.m., country duo “Partners” will close the festival.

April 27, noon – 3 p.m. is Family Day at the festival, with free activities for the entire Family, including Barney’s Backyard Barnyard Petting Zoo.

Murr Community Center offers discounted tickets to Southern California attractions. Stop by for a price sheet. The Murr Ticket Office is open Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Youth classes available at SKIES

Child, Youth and School Services SKIESUnlimited Program personnel offer several youth classes, including computer, gymnastics, piano lessons, cooking, karate, tae kwon do and dance.

Dine at TMAC for lunch

Thunder Mountain Activity Centre personnel invite everyone to join them for their lunch buffet, now served Tuesdays through Fridays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Cost is $8.95 for adults or $4.50 for children 5 – 11. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage.
