Jazz, wine festival returns May 17

Everyone is invited to attend the 4th annual “An Evening on the Green” Jazz and Wine Festival May 17, 4 – 9 p.m. at Brown Parade Field.

Admission is free, and includes wine and beer tasting. Bottles of wine and beer will be available to purchase, and Thunder Mountain Activity Centre will have food for sale. Arts and craft vendors will also be on site. Entertainment will be provided by the Military Intelligence Band Jazz Quintet.

FMWR offers reduced prices, free services

FMWR will observe Armed Forces Day by offering free or half-price services to active duty, Family members and retired military at the following facilities:

May 16, Family and MWR Rents (533.6707) will have half-price rentals, and Thunder Mountain Activity Centre (533.3802/533.7322) will offer their lunch buffet at half price.

May 17, the Arts and Crafts Center (533.2015/533.5550.) will feature free do-it-yourself time; the Sportsman’s Center (533.7085) will provide free paintball field time and free shotgun rental for trap and skeet; the RAP (533.7085/732.9310) will allow free use of the batting cages; Desert Lanes (533.2849) will offer free bowling and shoes; Jeannie’s Diner (533.5759) will serve free food samples; Buffalo Corral (533.5220) will host a free trail ride; and Mountain View Golf Course (533.7088) will provide free golf and cart rental.

All free services will be limited to available time and space to be determined by each facility, so early reservations are recommended.

Murr seeks crafters/vendors for bazaar

The staff at Murr Community Center is looking for crafters and vendors who wish to participate in the “Spring Bazaar” to be held May 24, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and May 25, noon – 4 p.m. Cost is $40 per table.

CDC offers evening child care June 7

New Beginnings Child Development Center will offer “Parents Night Out” June 7, 6 – 10 p.m.

Reservations will be taken through June 5. Charges of $16 per child apply. Children must be registered with Child, Youth and School Services.

Outdoor pool opens May 24

Irwin Outdoor Pool will open for the season May 24. Operating hours will be: Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and federal and training holidays, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The pool is open to all authorized FMWR patrons.

Right Arm Night — don’t miss out

The next Right Arm Night is set to start at 4 p.m. May 30 at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. Enjoy free finger foods, a pay-as-you-go bar, and win prizes in several contests.

Right Arm Night is free and open to all, including Soldiers, Civilians, retirees and Family members.

Join TMAC for lunch

The staff at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre invites everyone to join them for their lunch buffet, now served Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Tuesdays, they offer “TMAC Delight” with roast beef, chicken Caprese, mashed potatoes, rice and vegetables; Wednesday features “Tangy BBQ,” with Texas barbecued pork spareribs, barbecued chicken, pinto beans, collard greens and rice; Thursday features German food, with “Taste of the Rhine;” and Friday’s feature is “Down-home Delight” with fried chicken, fried catfish, mac and cheese, baked beans and more.

Cost of the lunch buffet is $8.95 for adults or $4.50 for children 5 – 11. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage.

Youth classes available at SKIES

Child, Youth and School Services SKIESUnlimited Program personnel offer several youth classes, including computer, gymnastics, piano lessons, cooking, karate, tae kwon do and dance.

The Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Division offers free ongoing fitness classes, including spinning, Zumba, yoga, aerobics, water fitness classes and more.
