Be fire safe during July 4 holiday weekend

Lawrence Beal
Fire Inspector, FH Fire Department

Fort Huachuca Fire Department personnel wish everyone a festive and safe 4th of July. Events on that day are enjoyable for Families and friends, celebrating the independence of America in 1776.

By being safe and following the guidelines of local jurisdictions we can better prepare ourselves to avoid injuries or fires. The fire service has noted drastic changes in our weather patterns leading to an earlier fire season and drier vegetation, which can easily be ignited.

There will be organized events being offered in the county to celebrate the birth of our nation. See the following website for locations: http://www.americantowns.com/az/cochise-county/news/july-4th-fireworks-schedule-festivities-and-parades-in-cochise-county-az-329870. Why not plan to attend one of these events to see fireworks displays which are not only showy, but held under safe conditions.

If planning to travel to another part of Arizona or another state, be sure to review the laws for using fireworks. If they are approved in that area, be sure to see the safety guidelines and other safety facts on the National Fire Protection Association website: http://www.nfpa.org/research/reports-and-statistics/fire-causes/fireworks.

As a reminder, open flames to include fireworks on Fort Huachuca are illegal and not permitted by the installation Fire Prevention Branch as per Regulation 420-13.

If you have questions or need assistance the FH Fire Prevention Branch can be reached at 502.533.1887 or 520.533.1883.
