ACAP has new name, now Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program

As part of the Soldier for Life Program that was introduced last year, the Army Career and Alumni Program, or ACAP, has changed names to the Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program, effective immediately.

In an effort to better reflect the new direction of Army transition with the Soldier for Life Program, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond T. Odierno announced the change June 20.

Roger Shepard, the Fort Huachuca transition services manager, explained that the name change is part of a new branding of transitions and personnel services for Soldiers.

“The key point to the whole process is everything is changing,” Shepard said. “The Army is changing the way its doing business, how its working with service members, how its preparing service members for transition, we are moving to a new portal that has a new way of doing things – all trying to refine what we’ve been doing for years and make a significant change.”

Over the next few months, Soldiers shouldn’t be confused if they call the formerly known ACAP office and the new name is used when the office answers, or if there are differing names in correspondence such as emails or memos. In hopes of a smooth transition, both names will be used over the course of the next few months.

All current services will remain the same, but under the Soldier for Life Program, Soldiers will begin to be introduced to transition resources and assistance sooner than before, with the addition of more interaction throughout the service members career.

For more information on the subject, call the Fort Huachuca Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program office, formerly the ACAP office, at 520.533.7314.
