MVGC offers ‘monsoon special’

Mountain View Golf Course personnel invite all golfers to join them for the following “monsoon special” now through Aug. 31: Golf before 11 a.m. for $25; Golf after 11 a.m. for $20. Special price includes a cart for 18 holes.

Free movie returns Saturday

FMWR will present a free Moonlight Movie, Saturday at Warrior/Sentinel Field. The movie will start at dusk.

Free popcorn, hot dogs, water and soft drinks will be provided, while supplies last.

Flag football coaches’ meeting set

The coaches’ meeting for the 2014 Intramural Flag Football Program will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Barnes Field House. Letters of intent are due at that time. Team rosters are due Aug. 29. The program will begin Sept. 2, 6 p.m. at Warrior/Sentinel Fields.

Right Arm Night — don’t miss out

The next Right Arm Night is set to start at 4 p.m. Aug. 22, at Thunder Mountain Activity Centre. Enjoy free finger foods, a pay-as-you-go bar, and win prizes in several drawings and contests.

Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families coming to Fort Huachuca

The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families will visit Fort Huachuca Aug. 24 with special shows at Barnes Field House at 2 and 6 p.m.

The show focuses on the challenges of deployments and their impact on military youth. During the performance, Elmo and his Sesame pals will help Katie — a military friend relocating to a new place — open up about her fears and excitement in dealing with change and making new friends.

The shows are open to military ID card holders and their Families. Admission is free on a first-come, first-served basis, and it is not necessary to have a ticket.

Sign up for the Steelhead Triathlon

Applications are now available for the 20th Annual Steelhead Triathlon which begins at 6 a.m., Sept. 6 at Irwin Pool.

The triathlon consists of an 800-yard swim, 12-mile bike ride, and a 5K (3.1-mile) run. This race is limited to the first 130 registrants. Competition includes individual, as well as male, female, and coed teams of three.

Don’t miss the Soldier Show!

The 2014 U.S. Army Soldier Show will be presented Aug. 26 and 27, 7 p.m., at Buena Performing Arts Center, Buena High School, 5225 Buena School Blvd., Sierra Vista. The theme of this year’s Soldier Show is “Stand Strong.”

Admission is free, on a first-come, first-served basis. It is not necessary to have a ticket.

Could you be the next ‘Rising Star’?

FMWR is looking for contestants for the 2014 Operation Rising Star contest, a worldwide singing competition, based on the “American Idol” television series. Locally, contestants have the chance to win cash prizes up to $500.

The contest is open to all branches of active duty military, Reserve, National Guard or their military Family members 18 and older. Applications will be available soon on-line at www.OpRisingStar.com. The local competition will be held in September.
