Each year, the president, along with local government officials, proclaims the month of April to be National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Throughout the month, the nation is urged to rally together against the growing epidemic of child abuse and to initiate and participate in programs and activities that help prevent and treat abuse as well as strengthen families and communities. Everyone must play a role if we are to change these tragic statistics:
Each day in the U.S., five children die of abuse or neglect.
Approximately 3.3 million reports of abuse are made each year.
The actual incidence of abuse and neglect is estimated to be three times greater than the number reported to authorities.
Everyone can take action by spreading awareness and education throughout each community. There are many ways for people to help family advocacy in the daily fight against child abuse and neglect.
