Civilian employee survey underway

Have you ever wanted a greater opportunity to change how your office works or give input on how you see the work environment? The U.S. Office of Personnel Management is giving Luke Air Force Base’s civilian employees that chance.

The OPM opened its Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey to Air Force civilians Monday. The opportunity to participate ends May 21 and though taking part isn’t mandatory, the information provided helps the Defense Department improve work centers based on feedback they receive.

“The FEVS is crucial to helping agencies understand how to improve their work environment to increase productivity and provide better service to the American people,” said John Berry, OPM director, in talking about last year’s survey. “Our employees are our most valuable resource, and engaging them is critical. The EVS allows us to do just that.”

The survey is available via e-mail. Responses go to the OPM and solicitations to participate are scheduled to arrive in civilian employees’ e-mail accounts through May 21.

According to statistics from last year’s survey, just under 35 percent of the Air Force’s civilian employees responded, a point-and-a-half under the DOD average. Those numbers also show that about two-thirds of those employees were satisfied with their positions, on par with the Army, Navy and Marine Corps. Those are numbers the Air Force looks to improve upon, and they plan to use the responses to help do that.

“We use the knowledge gained to increase productivity and improve service for the American people,” Berry said. “This survey draws upon our employees’ wisdom and experiences to reveal their agencies’ strengths and uncover challenges.”
