Commander’s call

Brig. Gen. JD Harris, 56th Fighter Wing commander, is holding two commander’s calls at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday at the Luke Air Force Base fitness center.

Load crew competition

The 56th Fighter Wing will hold the quarterly loading competition at 10 a.m. and noon today in Bldg. 485 (weapons standardization facility). The best load crews from the five aircraft maintenance units compete against each other in a side-by-side loading competition evaluated by weapons standardization personnel. Holocaust exhibit

The 2012 Days of Remembrance is Thursday with events scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and an exhibit in the chapel annex. The stories of rescue are 9:15 to 11 a.m. in Club Five Six and 1:40 to 3:30 p.m. in the Luke Community Chapel. A luncheon is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Club Five Six. Free theater

The PebbleCreek Community’s SHOWTIME performers invite the Luke Air Force Base community members to view for free a dress rehearsal performance of Broadway Favorites at 6:45 p.m. today in the Tuscany Falls Renaissance Theater in PebbleCreek. Household goods pickups

The personal property shipping office in Colorado Springs needs a minimum of three weeks’ notice for pickup of all shipments. For shipments requiring pack or pickup inside the three-week window, the member will need to provide an emergency impact statement as to why the shipment needs to be picked up inside the three-week window. Alternate dates must be provided to the traffic management office. Members not available on the alternate dates will need to appoint a releasing agent. In the case of a permanent change-of-station this summer, members are encouraged to be proactive to ensure orders are cut in time to meet this requirement. Service academies conference

Representatives of the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, military and naval academies will explain academic, career and military opportunities each school offers at the Service Academies Conference 2012 10 a.m. to noon April 28 at Camelback High School, 4612 N. 28th Street in Phoenix. All Arizona students and their parents are invited to attend the free conference hosted by Sen. John Kyl and Rep. Ben Quayle. APAH golf tournament

Children’s car seat check

Luke Fire Emergency Services is holding a free child safety seat check 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the 56th Force Support Squadron Child Development Center parking lot. Sparky the Fire Dog and firefighters will be on hand. For more information, call (623) 856-3766.

Month of the Military Child 

Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium Day for military families is 9 a.m. to close April 21. To register or for more information, e-mail lukefamilies@gmail.com.

Military members with eligible dependents can enter to win prizes before April 27 by visiting the Airman and Family Readiness Center in Bldg. 1113. Prizes include AZ Challenger Center Summer Camp in Peoria, Ultra Star movie pack in Surprise, swim lessons at the Silver Wings Pool, annual youth center membership, family bowling pack worth up to $50 or a Little Gym membership. The grand prize is a two-night resort stay in the Valley.

1st Sgts appreciation dinner

The annual First Sergeants Appreciation Dinner is 5 p.m. April 20 at Club Five Six. Tickets are $20 per club member and $22 per nonmember. Reservation deadline is Saturday. Have glossophobia?

Glossophobia is a fear of public speaking, which many people experience, but there is way to overcome this fear by joining Toastmasters. Conquering this fear starts by attending a special Toastmasters event 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 56th Medical Group Assembly Room accessed from the west entrance of the building. Renaming ceremony

In honor of Lt. Col. Frank Bryant, a Luke Air Force Base pilot who was killed April 27, 2011, in an attack at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan, there will be a Luke Fitness Center renaming ceremony at 10 a.m. April 30 in the gym. The Luke community is invited to attend.

Prayer breakfast

The National Prayer Breakfast is 7:30 to 9 a.m. April 26 in Club Five Six. Tickets are on sale through April 24 and are $5. They can be purchased through first sergeants or the Luke Community Chapel. This year’s theme is “NCIS Investigates Prayer” and guest speaker is Chaplain (Col.) Cherri Wheeler, AETC deputy command chaplain. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Volunteers for sports clinic

The 2012 National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic is Sept. 14 through 23 in San Diego and is an opportunity for Luke members to volunteer. For those interested, there is a meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bldg. 485, Room 107. The NVSSC promotes rehabilitation of body and spirit by teaching summer sporting activities to veterans with significant physical or psychological impairments. For more information, call Staff Sgt.
