GTC makes comeback this year

Courtesy of 56th CPTS

The Air Force is reverting back to the former government travel card versus using the recently introduced controlled spend account card. The transition will take place en masse in the August/September timeframe of this year.

Members who still have GTCs and never switched to the CSA program will not experience any change. For those who did switch, they will not be issued a new card. Citibank will change the status of these accounts to the GTC account with no action required by members. The change will happen automatically and members can continue to use their blue cards when on temporary duty or permanent change-of-station orders.

The GTC will have a permanent spending limit even when members are not in a TDY status. Members who are on orders will continue to have suitable spending levels available on their cards so they are able to pay for their expenses.

To track misuse of the card and unpaid balances, the old GTC delinquency program will return. Commanders and first sergeants will be involved to ensure members pay bills on time. This also means the GTC account program coordinator position will be a key additional duty in squadrons. Members deployed to remote locations can be placed in “mission critical” status where their delinquencies will be excused until they return to file a travel voucher and pay the card balance.

The 56th Comptroller Squadron office will host APC retraining events as the change-over date approaches.
