“And to the same Divine Author of every good and perfect gift, we are indebted for all those privileges and advantages, religious as well as civil, which are so richly enjoyed in this favored land.”                                                                                                  ~ James Madison

You will not get much of an argument when you hear people say that America is a blessed nation. From natural resources to natural beauty, this is indeed a blessed land in which we live; even more so now than our fourth president could ever have imagined. Unfortunately, his feeling of “indebtedness” to our Creator is held by so few in the present. Should we as a society, as a nation, as individuals, not be even more indebted today? “Yes!” I say. The words to America the beautiful should resound within our being that truly, “God shed His grace on thee.” Whether it be our religious or civil liberties, God has shown favor upon this land and we should not lose sight of that.

Blessings from Above …

Fly Over: ‘When in Doubt’, and ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’

In bookstores: ‘When in Doubt’ My female hormones sometimes hijack my body. On one such occasion, I decided to read “When in Doubt, Add Butter” by Beth Harbison. The novel was like romantic crack, laden with optimism and romantic sweetness. It satisfied my hormones but left a bad taste in my soul, momentarily tricking me...

CONS: Who we are, what we do

When people ask me what my job is in the Air Force, I tell them contracting. The typical response is, “You’re a contractor?” Then, I have to explain that I am not a contractor but actually an active-duty Air Force officer who has been given the authority to spend taxpayer dollars in order to keep...

Motivation: Starts with a goal

Last week when I visited family in California, my father mentioned to a family friend that I was in the Air Force. After exchanging pleasantries, he asked me how long I had been in the military, and I said, “Nine and a half years.” He fired back to me with a question that I hadn’t...
