Renaming ceremony

In honor of Lt. Col. Frank Bryant, a Luke Air Force Base pilot who was killed April 27, 2011, in an attack at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan, there will be a Luke Fitness Center renaming ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at the fitness center. The Luke community is invited to attend.

 

425th FS change of command

Lt. Col. Michael Dean, 425th Fighter Squadron commander, will relinquish command to Lt. Col. Kevin Cruikshank, 56th Fighter Wing director of staff at 8 a.m. May 4 in Hangar 840.

 

Marriage enrichment

The Luke Air Force Base Chapel is hosting a Marriage Matters Enrichment seminar 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4 in the Chapel on the Mall. Guest speakers will address topics of setting a vision for marriage, desires vs. expectations, developing core values and more. For more information or to sign up, e-mail Chaplain (Capt.) National Take-Back drugs initiative

Take back drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Luke Air Force Base Exchange. The National Take-Back Initiative is a DEA program for personnel to turn in unwanted or expired prescription medication for disposal. For more information, call Master Sgt. Household goods pickups

The personal property shipping office in Colorado Springs needs a minimum of three weeks’ notice for pickup of all shipments. For shipments requiring pack or pickup inside the three-week window, the member will need to provide an emergency impact statement as to why the shipment needs to be picked up inside the three-week window. Alternate dates must be provided to the traffic management office. Members not available on the alternate dates will need to appoint a releasing agent. In the case of a permanent change-of-station this summer, members are encouraged to be proactive to ensure orders are cut in time to meet this requirement. Service academies conference

Representatives of the Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, military and naval academies will explain academic, career and military opportunities each school offers at the Service Academies Conference 2012 10 a.m. to noon April 28 at Camelback High School, 4612 N. 28th Street in Phoenix. All Arizona students and their parents are invited to attend the free conference hosted by Sen. John Kyl and Rep. Ben Quayle. Air Force housing website

The Air Force has launched a housing website www.housing.af.mil that provides information on accompanied and unaccompanied housing available at Air force installations worldwide. This website provides information about privatized and unaccompanied housing as well community housing, schools, local weather and other useful information to help Airmen, accompanied and unaccompanied, make a smooth transition to a new duty location.

 

POW panel

There will be a POW panel at the base theater 3 to 5 p.m. May 18. A panel of six to nine former POWs will talk about their experiences and take questions from the audience. The event is open to all Defense Department identification card holders.

 

Switchboard operator service

Live operators are currently available 3 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Luke time). In the future, hours will be reduced further. By Aug. 1 directory assistance and base locator services will no longer be available. To view the quick reference list, go to luke.af.mil.

 

North Gate hours

North Gate is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed on weekends. Kachina Gate is closed until further notice.

 

Troops to Teachers seminar

A Troops to Teachers seminar is 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 16 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. One-on-one counseling is available by appointment only noon to 3 p.m. To R.S.V.P. or for more information, call (800) 830-2134.

 

Job fair

The Luke Job Fair 2012 is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Club Five Six. For more information, call (623) 856-6550.

 

APAH Month activities

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. The committee is featuring the following events:

May 1–30: Library static display at the Luke Air Force Base Library.

May 18: Taste of Asia, hosted by the 425th Fighter Squadron, POC is ME3 Loke.

May 23: APAH luncheon with dancers and guest speaker, POC is Gabriel Groves and Capt. Heidi Mudzimurema.

Date TBA: Jujitsu and an origami project at the youth center, POC is 1st Lt. Charles Glover and Tech. Sgt. Robert Principato.
