More than 70 U.S. and British wounded warriors completed the 2012 Warrior Games cycling competition at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 1. While the U.S. Air Force did not place first in any of the cycling competitions, Scott Bullis and Mike Sanders, both of the Air Force team, did place second and third in the men’s recumbent competition.

Florida

Five Reserve units and a federal agency teamed up April 26-29 in Florida for Patriot Sands, an airlift training exercise simulating deployed bare base conditions with limited support. Reservists with the 512th Airlift Control Flight, Dover Air Force Base, Del., 452nd ALCF, March Air Reserve Base, Calif., and 439th ALCF, Westover ARB, Mass., trained with two FBI Rapid Deployment Teams from New York and Washington, D.C.

Afghanistan

After nearly seven years of working with the local community in the Laghman Province of Afghanistan, Provincial Reconstruction Team Laghman is closing and officials are handing the reins over to the Afghan people in the district.

Bangladesh

U.S. and Bangladesh air force flight engineers traded seats in a U.S. Air Force C-130H Hercules cockpit for a subject matter expert exchange here, April 25, as part of exercise Cope South, a bilateral tactical airlift exercise conducted between the two air forces.

Airmen who exceed deployed time get added time off

Airmen who serve in excess of the Secretary of Defense’s established rotation goals are now eligible for additional time off, as written in the newly updated Post Deployment or Mobilization Respite Absence policy, officials said here April 25.

Contained in Guidance Memorandum 4 to Air Force Instruction 36-3003, Military Leave Program, PDMRA is intended to award extra administrative absence days to service members who exceed the desired deployment or mobilization-to-dwell ration.

All eligible Airmen can receive PDMRA for service in Combat Zone Tax Exclusion areas. Reserve component Airmen involuntarily mobilized outside of the U.S. pursuant to sections 12301(a), 12302, or 12304 of Title 10 of the United States Code can also be eligible to receive PDMRA.

Receiving PDMRA is a two-step process: eligibility and accrual, officials said.

Airmen must have exceeded the desired deployment or mobilization-to-dwell threshold in order to accrue PDMRA.

Active component Airmen are eligible to accrue PDMRA if, on the first day of their current deployment, they have been deployed in excess of 12 of the previous 36 months.
