Chaplain thoughts May 4, 2012

Courtesy of Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Theadore Wilson, 56th Fighter Wing Chapel

“I am rather tired of hearing about our rights and privileges as American citizens. The time is come, it now is, when we ought to hear about the duties and responsibilities of our citizenship.” ~ Peter Marshall

Peter Marshall was chaplain to the U.S. Senate shortly after the end of World War II. Unfortunately, not a lot seems to have changed since then. So many people today are more concerned with their rights and privileges to the point their duties and responsibilities are severely neglected. It reminds me of President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address of “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” We’ve all heard the term “man up”; well, it is time for us to “citizen up” for our nation. We need to stop being so self-centered and be reminded that our Heavenly Father esteems humility and service.

Blessings from Above …

These changes affect our lives, increasing...

Fly Over: ‘The Man of Steel’, and ‘This is the End’

In theaters: ‘The Man of Steel’ Anyone expecting “The Man of Steel” to be on par with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy will be disappointed, though it tried mightily. However, Zack Snyder’s (“300”) turn at telling the tale of the boy from Krypton is still one heck of a superhero film that lays the foundation...

Airman thankful for dad

What does it take to be a father? Leadership, guidance and love may be some of the qualities that come to mind. On Sunday, fathers are acknowledged for their part in raising children in many places of the world. Although Father’s Day is known for gifts and cards, for one Airman it’s about being thankful...

What do you radiate?

Col. Daniel Smith I am a believer in the power of positive influence. I buy into such phrases as “your attitude determines your altitude.” I have been the benefactor of being led by those who radiate positive vibes. Not in ...

This is an opportunity to learn from a mistake or mistakes and to make you a stronger person. However, that it is easier...
