Chaplain thoughts May 4, 2012

Courtesy of Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Theadore Wilson, 56th Fighter Wing Chapel

“I am rather tired of hearing about our rights and privileges as American citizens. The time is come, it now is, when we ought to hear about the duties and responsibilities of our citizenship.” ~ Peter Marshall

Peter Marshall was chaplain to the U.S. Senate shortly after the end of World War II. Unfortunately, not a lot seems to have changed since then. So many people today are more concerned with their rights and privileges to the point their duties and responsibilities are severely neglected. It reminds me of President John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address of “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” We’ve all heard the term “man up”; well, it is time for us to “citizen up” for our nation. We need to stop being so self-centered and be reminded that our Heavenly Father esteems humility and service.

Blessings from Above …
