B-1 Lancer aircrews made history at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D., when they employed laser Joint Direct Attack Munitions against moving targets during a weapon system evaluation program exercise May 14 through 16.


Georgia

Five British joint terminal attack controllers trained with Moody A-10C Thunderbolt II pilots, May 6 to 10, with the goal to train like they fight, and strengthen the relationship between these international forces.


 Iraq

The United States has agreed to sell unarmed surveillance drones to Iraq’s navy as part of an effort to help protect that nation’s oil exports amid growing tensions in the Persian Gulf and to strengthen U.S.-Iraqi ties.


Afghanistan

Floodwaters ravaged a provincial capital in northern Afghanistan, killing at least 19 people and destroying hundreds of homes, officials said Sunday. About 60 other people were missing and rescuers were looking for them across Sar-e-Pul, the capital of a province with the same name, said Sayed Faizullah Sadat, the area’s disaster director.
