Chaplain thoughts June 1, 2012

“And I’m proud to
be an American,
Where at least I
know I’m free.
And I won’t forget
the men who died
Who gave that
right to me.”
~ Lee Greenwood

Memorial Day was earlier this week. Now what?

How many times did you hear Lee Greenwood’s song on the radio? How many times did you get a lump in your throat while singing along? I ask again, now what?

It certainly is fitting that we as a nation set aside a day each year to commemorate our nation’s war dead – especially in a time of war. But at the same time, Memorial Day must be more than just the unofficial start of summer. It is truly a day whose significance grows with every life sacrificed on the fields of battle. As America’s Ambassadors in Blue, Airmen of all ranks need to educate and remind others that every time a hero comes home in a coffin, it is Memorial Day.

Blessings from Above …
