Air Force announces OTS selection boards results
A total of 283 men and women from across America have earned an opportunity to become Air Force leaders following their selection for an officer’s commission, officials announced May 29.
Air Force Recruiting Service officials considered 960 applications as part of the Officer Training School Non-Rated Selection Board 12OT02.
With the board’s selection rate of 28.4 percent, 273 applicants were selected to serve as Air Force officers. Of the 273 selected, 123 enlisted members earned the chance to attend OTS and trade their stripes for gold bars as second lieutenants.
Additionally, Air Force Recruiting Service officials considered 62 weather officer applications as part of the OTS Non-Rated Weather officer selection board 12OTCAD. With the board’s selection rate of 16.13 percent, 10 applicants were selected to serve as weather officers. Of the 10 selected, seven enlisted members earned the chance to attend OTS and trade their stripes for gold bars as second lieutenants.

Development team to select chief nurses in June
Lieutenant colonel and lieutenant colonel-select nurses interested in chief nurse opportunities must ensure their Airman Development Plan is up to date and statement of intent is submitted by the June 11 suspense, Air Force Personnel Center officials said.
The nurse corps development team will convene in June to select qualified candidates for 2013 worldwide openings, said Col. Lorrie Cappellino, AFPC Nurse Utilization and Education Branch chief.
“Interest in chief nurse positions is always high, and with the limited number of available positions, selection is very competitive and eligibility requirements are stringent,†Cappellino said.
Applicants should have leadership experience above the element level, national nursing administration certification, and have completed development education appropriate for their rank, Cappellino said. In addition, a master’s degree is mandatory as are various administrative criteria such as minimum time on station.

Guard, Reserve leaders discuss budget issues
The military’s reserve components remain ready and capable despite budget cuts and their transition from a strategic to operational force, senior National Guard and Reserve officials told the Senate Appropriations Committee’s defense subcommittee May 23 in Washington D.C.
As the drawdown continues in Afghanistan, the Guard and Reserve will maintain deployment-ready units undeterred by force structure changes such as the Air National Guard’s end strength reduction by 5,100 billets and aircraft inventory reduction by 134 aircraft, Gen. Craig McKinley, the National Guard Bureau chief, told the senators.
For example, McKinley said, the Air National Guard’s partnership with more than 60 foreign countries has strengthened the component’s military capacity and competence.
Lt. Gen. Harry Wyatt III, the Air National Guard director, said 22 partner nations have provided 11,000 troops to Afghanistan, and 40 partner nations have provided more than 31,000 personnel in support of U.N. peacekeeping operations. Last year, Guard Airmen filled about 54,000 requests for manpower, he added, noting that 91 percent of those requests were fulfilled with volunteers.

New, lighter ABU available at Luke in June
The new Rip-stop Airman Battle Uniform, featuring a lighter nylon-cotton blend, will be available to Airmen at 16 U.S. bases and through AAFES online now.
The wear policy for the light-weight RABUs will be exactly the same as for the ABUs. The only difference between the ABU and the RABU is the material.
The change to the new material will make the RABU lighter and cooler, but it’s also treated with a wrinkle-resistant finish, she said.
The RABU will completely replace the old, heavier ABU.
