Summer, packed with possibilities

June Calendar

S.T.E.P.S for success camp

Youth learn basic skills needed to land a job or career during the S.T.E.P.S for success teen camp 1 to 3 p.m. June 4 through 8. Free to youth center members.


Missoula Children’s Theater

Missoula Children’s Theater will hold a camp for children in 1st to 12th grade June 11 through 15. They will learn and perform “The Tortoise and the Hare.” There will be a camp fee of $10. Sign up by June 8.


Sideline sports camp

Youth learn ultimate Frisbee, badminton, water polo, fencing and lacrosse during the sideline sports camp from 9 a.m. to noon, for children, ages 9 to 12, and 1 to 4 p.m. for youth, ages 13 to 18, June 18 through 22. There is a $10 camp fee. Sign up by June 15.


July Calendar

Merry Monday

Reading. Poets, ages 9 to18, are encouraged to explore their creativity during the story and poetry writing session. Classes are held 4 to 5 p.m. July 2 and 9.

Art. Youth, ages 9 to 18, are invited to explore their artistic side during fine arts night from 4 to 5 p.m. July 16 and 23.

Photography. Youth, ages 9 to 18, can “capture the moment” with a unique photography class 4 to 5 p.m. July 30.

Tournament Tuesday

Sports. Sports enthusiasts, ages 9 to 18, come join the various tournaments held 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays in July. The tournaments will include pool, foosball, Wii Sports, air hockey and ping pong.


Wellness Wednesday

Wellness. Youth, ages 9 to 18, Wednesday is a day dedicated to fitness, nutrition and health with the 4-H club hosting events 4 to 5 p.m. weekly. July 11 and 25 will focus on fitness with an “Invent-a-Sport” activity and July 18 will feature a “Create-a-Meal” event.


Theatrical Thursday

Music. All performers, ages 9 to 18, are welcome to perform original material, covers or to improvise with other artists during the open mic night. Performances will take place 4 to 5 p.m. July 13, 20 and 27.

Fun Friday

Open Rec. Youth, ages 9 to 18, have a night of fun from 4 to 10 p.m. July 13 and 27.

Soccer camp. A soccer camp will be held for youth, ages 8 to 18, July 9 through 15. The camp will offer traditional soccer instruction with a combination of freestyle. Youth, ages 8 to 12, will recive traditional instruction 9 a.m. to noon. and teens, ages 13 to 18, will learn to incorporate elements of freestyle into the original game of soccer from 1 to 4 p.m. The camp participation fee of $10 is due at sign up July 3.
A youth center membership is required.

Hip-hop dance camp. Youth, ages 9 to 15, get fit through learning the latest hip-hop dance crazes like zumba along with yoga and Pilates. A professional instructor will teach each session from 1 to 4 p.m. July 23 through 27. There is a camp participation fee of $10. Sign up by July 20. Youth center membership is required.

S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) camp. Teens, ages 9 to 13, are encouraged to explore the world of “Discovery and Invention” during the week of July 30 to Aug. 3.  S.T.E.M is conducted by an instructor from the Arizona Science Center and youth will experience history come alive 1 to 4 p.m. There is a camp fee of $10. Sign up by July 27.  Youth center membership is required.

Dance. Groove to music with the “Back-to-School Teen Dance” hosted by the Keystone Club Teen Council 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 10. DJ James will play the latest music with a karaoke and dance contest. The cost is $3 per teen and all proceeds go to the Air Force Aid Society.
