56th MDSS change of command

Lt. Col. Scott Suckow, 56th Medical Support Squadron commander, will relinquish command to Maj. Gregory Coleman at 10 a.m. June 15 in the Navy Operational Support Center Drill Hall. Due to the ceremony, some delays in patient services should be expected.

 

310th FS change of command

Lt. Col. Todd Murphy, 310th Fighter Squadron commander, will relinquish command to Lt. Col. Jon Wheeler at 8 a.m. June 15 in Bldg. 913.

 

56th CONS change of command

Lt. Col. Tommy Gates, 56th Contracting Squadron commander, will relinquish command to Maj. Quoc-Nam Nguyen at 2 p.m. June 18 in Club Five Six.

 

56th EMS change of command

Lt. Col. Dominic Clementz, 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron commander, will relinquish command to Maj. Jeffery Campbell at 7:30 a.m. June 22 in Hangar 485.

 

Reading is delicious

The Luke Air Force Base Library 2012 summer reading program theme is Reading Is So Delicious and registration is open for readers, ages 4 through 12. The program is 9 a.m. Thursdays beginning June 21 and runs for six weeks. A puppet show, food crafts, face painting, food sing-along, magic show and T-shirt are included. AFSA meeting

TRICARE Plus enrollment

The Luke Air Force Base Outpatient Clinic is accepting applications from TRICARE For Life beneficiaries who would like to enroll in the TRICARE Plus Program and want to be assigned an on-base primary care manager. Registration closes Aug. 31. For more information, call the beneficiary and counseling assistance coordinators at (623) 856-3079. 

 

Road closure advisory

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation has temporarily closed Northern Avenue between Litchfield Road and Dysart Road to accommodate new concrete box culvert installation. During this time, Litchfield Road and Dysart Road will remain open. Glendale Avenue or Olive Avenue may be used as an alternate route. Northern Avenue is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. July 3.

 

Heart Link

The Airmen and Family Readiness Center will provide a free program called Heart Link, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The program will help educate military spouses on a variety of topics ranging from Air Force customs and courtesies to how to read a leave and earnings statement. Childcare will be coordinated with the child development center and the youth center if needed. To sign up, call (623) 856-6550.

 

Warrior Fit for Hope

Warrior Fit is hosting a workout that will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital tomorrow at the Warrior Training Facility. A donation of $10 is recommended, and all proceeds will be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For more information, go to hope.crossfit.com or call 2nd Lt. Air Force Academy cadets visit Luke

Cadets from the U.S. Air Force Academy are visiting Luke Air Force Base through Aug. 2. Approximately 12 cadets going into their sophomore or junior year will be on base for each of the three-week intervals. The Operation Air Force program focuses on exposing cadets to active-duty bases and the different career fields available to them. Working with personnel from Luke will help guide cadets in selecting their future Air Force careers.

 

Commissioning briefing

A commissioning briefing is 2 p.m. Thursday in Bldg. 1150, 3rd floor, Room 3148. This briefing is mandatory for any enlisted personnel interested in Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Officer Training School or the Air Force Academy, or medical commissioning. Auditions for Beetle Juice

The Luke Experience will hold auditions for a production of Beetle Juice at 6 p.m. June 27 and 28 at the base theater. There are also openings for stage and technical support. For more information, call Lacey Quattlebaum at (623) 856-9949.

 

Home buying seminar

The Luke Air Force Base Housing Management office and Airman and Family Readiness Center will feature a home buying seminar for military members, retirees, Defense Department civilians and their families. Attendees will learn the benefits and how to obtain a VA loan and the financial aspects of home buying. The class is 9 to 11 a.m. June 27 at the A&FRC, Bldg. 1113. Thrift shop closing

The thrift shop will close for the summer at 2 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen at 10 a.m. Sept. 12.

 

Back pain prevention month

A back pain seminar is 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 14, 21 and 28 in the Combat PT Center. For more information or to sign up, call Marlyn Shults at (623) 856-5902.

Linen exchange operations

Linen exchange operations at Luke Air Force Base recently contracted with NOFUSS, a commercial laundry facility. The transfer of responsibility from military to contracted operations should be transparent to customers; however, the hours of operation have changed to provide greater flexibility on customer drop-off and pick-up days while controlling costs. The customer service window is now open 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Linen exchange is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Customers that have industrial rags or uniforms need to drop those items off prior to 10 a.m. These items cannot be stored overnight. Deployed spouses dinner

The deployed spouses and family dinner, sponsored by Fighter Country Partnership, is 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Wigwam Resort. Balloon animals, face painting, chair massages, Tiki hut activities, resort pool access, hamburgers, hotdogs and veggies are included. All pre, current and post deployed military members and their families are invited to attend a free night of food, entertainment and activities. A special room rate of $89 is offered June 1 through Sept 10.
