Alaska

Members of the Royal Australian Air Force came to Joint Base Elmendorf to participate in Exercise Red Flag Alaska 2012. The Royal Australian air force’s airborne early warning and control E-7A Wedgetail as well as medium transport C-130H and C-130J Hercules aircraft participated in the advanced international air combat training exercise.

 

Azores

Reservists from the 419th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, arrived  June 9 as part of a cooperative effort with the 65th Air Base Wing. Members of the 419th LRS completed annual training during their temporary duty stay, while members of the 65th LRS exercised their ability to receive forward-deploying forces.

 

Korea

With the ever-present threat of North Korea so close, Pacific Air Forces and South Korean airmen constantly train to respond to any potential attacks. A workshop gave the allies a chance to strengthen their partnership through demonstrations of the equipment used during chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear attacks.

 

 Vietnam

Fifty-eight U.S. military members provide humanitarian medical, dental and optometry care; engineering programs, during an eight-day engagement. More than 750 patients were seen on the first day of the engagement. The treatments ranged from optometry care, women’s health, dental, family care and pharmaceutical services.

 

Military leaders discuss operations during Pacific region air boss conference 

Military leaders from the U.S. and the Republic of Korea gathered June 13 and 14 to discuss airpower strategies in the Pacific region.

The bilateral air boss conference is an annual conference that combined 120 leaders from the U.S. Air Force, Marines, Army and ROK to make up the air component team covering a wide range of topics relevant to airpower in the theater of operations, explained Lt. Gen. Jan-Marc Jouas, the 7th Air Force commander.

Jouas and Korean air force Lt. Gen. Park Shin Kyu, the ROK Air Force Operations Command commander, led the conference and provided opening remarks.

“This is truly a great team we have here,” Jouas said. “You can take a look around the room and see there are a lot of people who were here before (last year) and some that weren’t. But this is about building this team in 2012.”

The conference brings together commanders from around the Pacific, and they work on how to divvy up forces during a potential crisis or conflict. Another goal is to network and understand allies who would be working side-by-side in a combined environment.
