DFAC provides programs for Thunderbolts

If an Airman living in the dorms or a deployed Airman’s family member is hungry and doesn’t feel like cooking, the Luke Air Force Base Ray V. Hensman Dining Facility may be able to help.

“Our main objective is to provide healthy, nutritious meals for Airmen and family members who choose to eat at our facility,” said Master Sgt. Felicia Fencl, 56th Force Support Squadron Food Services section chief.

The DFAC offers several programs for Airmen who live in the dorms and dependents of deployed Airmen.

There’s a quarterly birthday meal for Airmen in the dorms whose birthday falls within the respective quarter. The Airmen who come to the meals can receive prizes while eating a free meal and enjoying birthday cake and ice cream.

The DFAC is also open for the 944th Fighter Wing during their unit training assembly.

The doors are also open for deployed Airmen’s families from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and all day Saturday. Family members must have a copy of their sponsor’s orders. The cost is the same and approximately $4 for a meal.

“It’s nice for families who want a break from the daily routine to come by the dining facility and have a meal provided for them,” said Master Sgt. Shawn Miller, 56th FSS DFAC manager.

The DFAC also collaborates with the 56th FSS Airman and Family Readiness Center for the “Dinner without Dishes” program. It is a free meal every quarter open to families of deployed members assigned to Luke.

Tech. Sgt. Brenda Vargas-Navarro, 56th FSS assistant DFAC manager, said the facility hopes Airmen and their dependants take advantage of these programs.

“We don’t want anyone to feel left out or forgotten,” she said.
