As members of the United States Air Force we have a duty to uphold a professional image no matter when or where we are and whether we are on or off duty. This includes our personal appearance, conduct and behavior 24/7. No matter where we are or what we are doing, someone is watching, and we are making an impression either good or bad.
This is why it’s so important to adhere to, enforce and go above and beyond standards. There is a reason why we cannot wear sunglasses on the tops of our heads while in uniform, we must be clean cut and have physical training standards. If we did not have Air Force Instructions to follow and standards to meet or exceed then we would not be able to maintain the title of the greatest Air Force in the world.
So remember, when someone sees one of us standing in line at a store to make a purchase, they may only see us as individuals, but they are looking at us as a whole, either as Luke Air Force Base Airmen or the U.S. Air Force in general.
Sometimes they may not know a thing about the military, and this becomes their first impression of the Air Force. That is why it is so important for every Airman, from the wing commander to an airman basic, to portray a professional military image.
