“For six years, I kept my five Olympic medals wrapped in a plastic bread bag beneath my bed.” ~ Mary Lou Retton
Wow … not displayed on the mantle, not kept in a curio, not even hanging up in a shadow box? Out of sight for no one to see. So much blood, sweat, and tears; so many hours of practice day in and day out; dedication that most of us do not even understand. Glory for a moment, and not too long after that, relics of a champion lie collecting dust under a bed. This got me thinking about what is really important. Don’t get me wrong, accomplishments such as this are huge, really huge, but they pale in comparison to things that are eternal. The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:19-21, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” One day, everything you and I have on this earth will be gone. My question for you is what are you storing up for eternity?
Blessings from Above …
