Natural disaster exercise

The 56th Fighter Wing will conduct an emergency management exercise Thursday within the perimeter of the base. The exercise will include military and local, county and state law enforcement, and fire departments. Expect traffic disruptions, gate closures or delays, and interruptions of customer service operations. Those on base may see explosions, smoke, role players depicting individuals with injuries, and emergency responders to include fire, police, ambulances and medical evacuation helicopters.

Operation KIDS

Operations KIDS is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Camp Thunderbolt, Bldg. 400 on Luke Air Force Base. It is a simulated deployment experience for children ages 6 to 15. Registration is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 1113; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Allen Readiness Center at 5636 E. McDowell Rd., Bldg. Game Changers – Men making a difference

The Luke Air Force Base Chapel is hosting a Christian community men’s conference 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 and 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 29 at the base theater. Guest speakers from on and off base will give Spirit-filled presentations and testimonies, along with times of praise, according to Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Ted Wilson. “In the process, all men will have the opportunity to learn how God works out our salvation, often in astonishing ways,” he said. “This will be a chance for men to listen and experience the incredible ‘Spirituality of Men’ as it can only be presented by other men.” For more information, call Wilson at (623) 856-6211.

HHM golf tourney

The 2012 Hispanic Heritage Month committee is featuring a golf tournament Sept. 7 at Falcon Dunes Golf Course. Registration is 6:30 a.m. and the four-person shotgun start is 7:30 a.m. The cost is $35 per active duty E-1 through E-4; $40 per active duty E-5 and up, officers and retired; and $45 per civilian. Greens fees, golf cart range balls, scoring, hole-in-one contest, raffle and barbecue brisket or cheese burger lunch with potato salad, chips dessert and drinks are included. Car show, golf, men’s health expo

The 56th Medical Group is featuring “Tune-up for Health,” a car show and men’s health expo, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at Club Five Six. View hot rods, classic cars and motorcycles, and get a health and wellness check at the same time. Food, refreshments and prizes are also included and the event is open to dependents. Optometry closed, exercise

The optometry clinic will be closed 2 to 4:30 p.m. today. Due to a base-wide exercise Aug. 23, visitors to the clinic can expect delays.

Booster Bash

A new law went into effect Aug. 2 requiring children under 8 to be restrained in a booster seat. The Airman & Family Readiness Center along with Luke Air Force Base Fire and Emergency Services are teaming with Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Child Passenger Safety Program to host a Booster Bash at 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 31 at the A&FRC, Bldg. 1113. Information will be provided on the safe installation of booster seats and a free booster seat will be given to parents or guardians of children meeting the criteria. Academy/LEAD appointments

The U.S. Air Force Academy and its preparatory school are looking for enlisted Airmen who meet the criteria to enter the commissioned ranks. Airmen can apply through the Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development program. Each year 170 slots are available to active-duty Airmen for direct entry. Applicants must be younger than age 23 by July 1, 2013, for entry into the academy; or younger than age 22 by July 1, 2013, for entry into the prep school; unmarried; a U.S. citizen; and no dependents.

Airmen wishing to apply for appointment must complete an Air Force Form 1786 by Dec. 31. For more information, go to the base education center, Bldg. 1150, Room 3136, or call (623) 856-7722.

MSA closure

The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Munitions Storage Area will close Sept. 17 through 21 to conduct a 100-percent munitions inventory. Only emergency issues will be handled during this time. The last date for munitions turn-in is Sept. 14. Normal operations will resume Sept. 24. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Mark Liddy at (623) 856-6503.

Free passes to science center

The Arizona Science Center and MathAlive! are offering free admission to military members and up to four family members 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at 600 E. Washington Street, Phoenix. For more information or to reserve a spot today, go to RaytheonMathAlive@raytheon.com.

AFNET migration

Luke Air Force Base will migrate its users into the Air Force Network to centralize services beginning Aug. 27. For more information, call the 56th Communications Squadron at (623) 856-4400.

Gillespie Memorial ride

The Master Sgt. Randy Gillespie Memorial Poker Run will be held Aug. 25 with registration beginning at 7 a.m. at Jimbo’s (51st Avenue and Cactus Road). Household good customer satisfaction survey

Those who have recently had household goods delivered should have received an e-mail with a link to complete a customer satisfaction survey seven days after the delivery. How moving companies are rated on the CSS directly impacts whether they receive more or less Defense Department household goods business in the future. Good or bad, the CSS should be completed. Everyone’s participation ensures quality moving companies are selected. For more information, call (623) 856-6424.

Housing assistance

The Air Force Housing Management Office provides professional and personalized housing assistance to military members and their families. These programs include privatized housing referrals, relocation services, off-base rental property counseling, home buying and selling information. Free park pass

The National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands is offering active-duty military members a free annual pass for up to four adults to more than 2,000 sites across the U.S. including parks, wildlife refuges, forests and other public lands.
