Hispanic Heritage Month events
Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. This year’s theme is “Diversity United, Building America’s Future Today.” The committee is featuring the following events:
Sept. 7 at 7 a.m. golf tournament at Falcon Dunes Golf Course
Sept. 12 at 8 a.m. opening ceremony breakfast at Club Five Six
Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. reveille at the base flag pole
Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. kid’s piñata party at the 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center
Oct. 12 at 11:30 a.m. closing ceremony and luncheon at Club Five Six and will include heritage displays, an Ecuadorian music group, dancers and an authentic Hispanic meal

Fundraising on Luke
All fundraising performed on Luke Air Force Base must have current authorization to operate on file at the 56th Force Support Squadron in compliance with Air Force Instruction 34-223. The fundraising approval process takes about three weeks. For more information, email rosemarie.reyes@luke.af.mil.
Martial arts training
The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program will mentor the first all-Airman instructor-led MCMAP tan and grey belt course at Luke Air Force Base 6:30 to 8 a.m. Nov. 26 through Dec. 21. The class is limited to 20 people, includes a health screening and paperwork is due by Nov. 16. For more information, call the Bryant Fitness Center at (623) 856-6241.
MDG parking lot
Repair on the 56th Medical Group, Bldg. 1130, parking lot will take place in three phases and begins Sept. 10 and ends Oct 12. Access will be via different routes depending on the phase. For more information, go to www.luke.af.mil.
Deployed family dinner
The 56th Medical Support Squadron, 56th Fighter Wing Chapel and Fighter Country Partnership are featuring bowling, laser tag, arcade games, billiards and food for military families with a pre, current or post-deployed family member Sept. 12 at Uptown Alley, 13525 N. Litchfield Road in Surprise. Games are 5 to 8:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 6 p.m. Reservations are not required, but highly suggested. Meet the bowling pros
A “Next Level” clinic and exhibition event is Sept. 16. Session I is 9 a.m. to noon. Session II is 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Thunderbolt Bowling Center. Meet Norm Duke and Randy Pedersen, professional bowlers who provide video analysis of individuals’ games, on-lane instruction, trick shot exhibition, challenge match, and a photo and autograph session. Short sale assistance
The Federal Housing Finance Agency recently announced changes to short sale policies that make it easier for military homeowners with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgages to honor financial commitments when they are issued a permanent-change-of-station order. Qualified military homeowners will be eligible to sell their homes in a short sale even if they are current on their mortgage. Under the new policy Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will not pursue a deficiency judgment or any cash contribution or promissory note from members of the military with a change in duty station for any property purchased on or before June 30, 2012. To determine if a mortgage is Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, service members can call (877) MIL(645)-4566 or (800) FREDDIE (373-3343).
MSA closure
The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Munitions Storage Area will close Sept. 17 through 21 to conduct a 100-percent munitions inventory. Only emergency issues will be handled during this time. The last date for munitions turn-in is Sept. 14. Normal operations will resume Sept. 24. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Mark Liddy at (623) 856-6503.
Outpatient clinic closure
The Luke Air Force Base Outpatient Clinic will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.
