AFSA meeting

Hispanic Heritage Month Events

Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. This year’s theme is “Diversity United, Building America’s Future Today.” The committee is featuring the following events:

Sept. 17 at 7 a.m. reveille and opening ceremony at the base flag pole

Oct. 2 at 3 p.m. children’s piñata party at the 56th Force Support Squadron Youth Center

Oct. 12 at 11:30 a.m. closing ceremony and luncheon at Club Five Six and will include heritage displays, an Ecuadorian music group, dancers and an authentic Hispanic meal

Game Changers – Men making a difference

The Luke Air Force Base Chapel is hosting a Christian community men’s conference 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 and 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 29 at the base theater. Men will have the opportunity to learn how God works out salvation, and listen and experience the spirituality of men. For more information, call Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Ted Wilson at (623) 856-6211.

Andre Kole illusionist

The Luke community is invited to the Andre Kole World of Illusion show, which also features international illusionist Tim Kole at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Luke Air Force Base Theater. Andre Kole is one of the world’s foremost illusionists and investigators of the supernatural. The conclusions from his search will be offered in an optional after-show magical presentation. Operation KIDS

Operations KIDS is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Camp Thunderbolt, Bldg. 400 on Luke Air Force Base. It is a simulated deployment experience for children ages 6 to 15. Registration is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 1113; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Allen Readiness Center at 5636 E. McDowell Rd., Bldg. AFGE Local cookout

Defense Department, nonappropriated fund, Army Air Force Exchange Services and commissary employees are welcome to attend the AFGE Local 1547 cookout 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Fowler Park. For more information, call Diane Talley at (623) 856-6957.

Thrift shop reopens

The Thrift Shop reopens 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Friday for consignments and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for sales. The shop accepts clothing, household goods, furniture, small appliances, hardware, etc. For more information or before bringing large items and for a list of items not currently being accepted, call (623) 935-5782 during regular hours.

Meet the bowling pros

A “Next Level” clinic and exhibition event is Sept. 16. Session I is 9 a.m. to noon. Session II is 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Thunderbolt Bowling Center. Meet Norm Duke and Randy Pedersen, professional bowlers who provide video analysis of individuals’ games, on-lane instruction, trick shot exhibition, challenge match, and a photo and autograph session. Air Force birthday meal

The Ray V. Hensman Dining Facility will host an Air Force birthday meal to celebrate the Air Force’s 65th birthday 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18. A special menu will be served along with complimentary cake and ice cream. A la carte prices will apply for all menu items. The meal is open to authorized patrons. Blood drive

There will be a base-wide blood drive Sept. 25 and 26. Details will be published in next week’s Thunderbolt. For more information, call (623) 856-3775.

MSA closure

The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Munitions Storage Area will close Sept. 17 through 21 to conduct a 100-percent munitions inventory. Only emergency issues will be handled during this time. The last date for munitions turn-in is Sept. 14. Normal operations will resume Sept. 24. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Mark Liddy at (623) 856-6503.

MDG parking lot

Repair on the 56th Medical Group, Bldg. 1130, parking lot will take place in three phases. It began Monday and ends Oct 12. Access will be via different routes depending on the phase. For more information, go to www.luke.af.mil.
