Commander’s calls

Brig. Gen. Michael Rothstein, 56th Fighter Wing commander, will hold commander’s calls at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Bryant Fitness Center gym.

Active shooter exercise

The 56th Fighter Wing will conduct a base-wide active-shooter exercise Sept. 27. Community residents and visitors to the base should expect disruptions, gate closures, or delays and interruptions of customer service operations. They should also expect the possibility of seeing explosions, smoke, role players depicting injuries and emergency responders to include fire, police, ambulances and medical evacuation helicopters integrating off-base fire and police departments and Maricopa County authorities. Luke chapel adds new Mass

The Luke Catholic community will add a new Mass to the weekend worship schedule beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel on the Mall. While this additional Mass is primarily intended for Airmen living in the Luke Air Force Base dormitories, everyone is welcome.

Service station closure

In order to process end-of-year transactions the base service station will be closed from midnight Sept. 29 to 11:59 p.m. Sept. 30. Vehicles must refuel prior to midnight Sept. 29. Emergency and first-responder vehicles can refuel at the Fuels Management Flight compound until 8 a.m. Sept. 30. Exceptions to these times must be approved by 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron Fuels Management. For more information, call (623) 856-7391.

Outpatient clinic closure

Luke Air Force Base Outpatient Clinic will be closed Sept. 28 for training. For more information, call (623) 856-4217.

Cross-cultural communication course

The Community College of the Air Force and the Air Force Culture and Language Center are offering, at no cost, Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication, a distance learning course covering manifestations of culture, communication styles, paralanguage, nonverbal communication and active listening. The course fulfills three hours of either social science or general elective credit required for the CCAF associate of applied science degree. Registration is Oct. 6 and class begins Oct. 11. Customer service updates

The 56th Comptroller Squadron, in coordination with the base installation deployment office, is forming the defense travel system team to create twice-weekly deployment in-processing sessions. The 56th CPTS training room will be manned 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday to help returning deployers with travel vouchers. Other agencies on base have joined the efforts to create a one-stop-shop for returning Airman to complete most of their checklist and eliminate excessive travel around base. The new service also offers after-hours appointments for complex pay issues which require more assistance and shift workers who cannot visit during regular lobby hours. Men making a difference

The Luke Air Force Base Chapel is hosting a Christian community men’s conference 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 and 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 29 at the base theater. AFGE Local cookout

Meet the bowling pros

A “Next Level” clinic and exhibition event is Sunday. Session I is 9 a.m. to noon. Session II is 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Thunderbolt Lanes. Meet Norm Duke and Randy Pedersen, professional bowlers who provide video analysis of individuals’ games, on-lane instruction, trick shot exhibition, challenge match, and a photo and autograph session. Thrift shop reopens

The Thrift Shop reopens 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and Friday for consignments and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for sales. The shop accepts clothing, household goods, furniture, small appliances, hardware, etc. For more information or before bringing large items and for a list of items not currently being accepted, call (623) 935-5782 during regular hours.

MSA closure

The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Munitions Storage Area will close Monday through Sept. 21 to conduct a 100-percent munitions inventory. Only emergency issues will be handled during this time. Blood drive

A base-wide blood drive is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25 and 26 in the commissary parking lot and 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the 56th Medical Group clinic assembly room. Air Force birthday meal

The Ray V. Hensman Dining Facility will host an Air Force birthday meal to celebrate the Air Force’s 65th birthday 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. A special menu will be served along with complimentary cake and ice cream. A la carte prices will apply for all menu items. The meal is open to authorized patrons. MDG parking lot

Repair on the 56th Medical Group, Bldg. 1130, parking lot will take place in three phases and ends Oct 12. Access will be via different routes depending on the phase. For more information, go to www.luke.af.mil.

Andre Kole illusionist

The Luke community is invited to the Andre Kole World of Illusion show, which also features international illusionist Tim Kole at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Luke Air Force Base Theater. Andre Kole is one of the world’s foremost illusionists and investigators of the supernatural. The conclusions from his search will be offered in an optional after-show magical presentation. AOC Classified Symposium

The Association of Old Crows will hold a classified symposium on the dynamic world of spectrum warfare 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 in Bldg. 1520 on Luke Air Force Base. The cost is $25 per military member. To register online, go to www.crows.org.

Free golf tournament

Military members, retirees and their dependents are invited to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship Oct. 31 through Nov. 4 at Cochise Course at the Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale. Admission is free. Military Appreciation Day is Nov. 3. For more information, go to www.schwabcup.com.

Operation KIDS

Operations KIDS is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Camp Thunderbolt, Bldg. 400 on Luke Air Force Base. It is a simulated deployment experience for children ages 6 to 15. Registration is 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Allen Readiness Center at 5636 E. McDowell Rd., Bldg. M5260, Phoenix; 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 9 and 11 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 1113. Martial arts training

The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program will mentor the first all-Airmen instructor lead MCMAP tan and grey belt course at Luke Air Force Base 6:30 to 8 a.m. Nov. 26 through Dec. 21.
