Chaplain thoughts – September 28, 2012

“Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.”

Imagine that just by signing your name to a document in essence you were signing your own death sentence. That is the price that John Hancock was willing to pay for freedom for a newly birthed America. Some even contend that he was the first of 56 who put their signatures on the Declaration of Independence.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

These words from the declaration are what most of us remember from elementary school. What are you doing to defend these rights? Election day is coming; we have a civic duty to vote — even more so as military members to participate in this process. Don’t let man take away that which God gave.
