Small business briefing

AFSA meeting

Finance closes early today

NCO retraining program

The deadline to volunteer for retraining is today for NCOs in unrestricted career fields affected by the fiscal 2013 NCO Retraining Program. NCOs who volunteer during Phase I may apply for any shortage career fields listed on the retraining advisory, if they meet requirements.

Breast Cancer Awareness

The 56th Medical Group is offering after-hours well-woman appointments 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 16, 23 and 30 and mammograms every Tuesday and Thursday in October in observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. To make an appointment or for more information, call (623) 856-CARE (2273).

Air Force Band performs

The U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will perform Oct. 24 in the Mountain Ridge High School gym at 22800 N. 67th Ave., Glendale; and Oct. 25 in the Arizona State University Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium at 1200 S. Hiring heroes

The RecruitMilitary Veteran Hiring Fair is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. For more information, call Chris Adams at (513) 677-7055.

Thrift shop

The Thrift Shop is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for consignments and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for sales Wednesday and Friday in Bldg. 750. The staff accepts clothing, household goods, furniture, small appliances, hardware, etc. For more information on items that are not currently being accepted or prior to dropping off large items, call the Thrift Shop at (623) 935-5782 during business hours. All profits are donated to the Luke Officer Spouses Club Welfare Fund to help finance welfare projects throughout the Luke community.

Free park pass

The National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands is offering active-duty military members a free annual pass for up to four adults to more than 2,000 sites across the U.S. including parks, wildlife refuges, forests and other public lands. LOSC member’s night

The Luke Officers Spouses Club invite officers’ spouses to a member’s night out at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at Thunderbolt Lanes. Prizes are included.

FEND is available

The Federal Employees News Digest and the Federal Employees Almanac is now available from the Air Force Portal. FEND provides weekly updates, opinion and advice on federal employee pay, benefits policies and developments in the federal government. Third-party insurance collections

All non-active duty beneficiaries using 56th Medical Group facilities must sign the electronic Department of Defense Form 2569 on an annual basis. This allows the military to bill other health insurance companies for medical care, including pharmaceuticals. Electronic DD Form 2569s can be signed at any clinic within the 56th Medical Group and at the satellite pharmacy. Beneficiaries are no longer required to carry the blue card once they have signed the electronic DD Form 2569. For more information, call James Mitchell at (623) 856-4057.

MOAA dinner

The Military Officers Association of America Luke Chapter, will hold a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Club Five-Six. Entertainment will be provided by the Desert Aires Barbershop Chorus. All active-duty, retired, and warrant officers, and their spouses are invited to attend. Absentee ballots

States will continue to accept absentee ballot applications until the end of October. Military members, Defense Department civilians and dependents can register for an absentee ballot online at www.fvap.gov.

Tune up for health

Tune-Up for Health is the men’s health event 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at Club Five Six. Men registered for the event will be entered into drawings for prizes but do not have to be present to win. Additional drawings for prizes are at each “Pit Stop” booth. Learn about healthy life styles and reducing health risks, and get a health assessment. Get health screenings on-site, see a car show and visit with Valley sports teams and celebrities. Friends and family members are welcome to attend.
