Contemporary Gospel Service celebration

The Luke Air Force Base chapel will offer two services at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Luke Community chapel in honor of the Contemporary Gospel Service celebrating 37 years of history. Dr. Alfred Craig from the Arizona USA World Ministries and Rev. Gregory Chambliss from Solid Rock Baptist Church in Glendale will be the guest speakers. For more information, call Chaplain (Capt.) Special-duty recruiting team briefings

An Air Education and Training Command special duty recruiting team briefing will be held 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 23 at the base theater. The team will discuss positions for military training instructors, military training leaders, professional military education instructors and Air Force recruiters. Spouses are invited to attend. Senior airmen with at least 35 months time in service through master sergeants with fewer than 16 years total active federal military service may be eligible to apply. Tune up for health

Tune-Up for Health is the men’s health event 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Club Five Six. Men registered for the event will be entered into drawings for dozens of prizes. Additional drawings for prizes are at each “Pit Stop” booth. Learn about healthy life styles and reducing health risks, and get a health assessment or flu shot. Get health screenings on-site, see a car show and visit with Valley sports teams and celebrities. Friends and family members are welcome to attend. Bounce houses will be onsite for the children. LOSC member’s night

The Luke Officers Spouses Club invites officers’ spouses to a members’ night-out at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at Thunderbolt Lanes. Prizes are included.

Breast cancer awareness

The 56th Medical Group is offering after-hours well-woman appointments 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in October and mammograms every Tuesday and Thursday in October in observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For more information or to make an appointment, call (623) 856-CARE (2273).

Halloween family fun night

The Luke Air Force Base Library will feature a Halloween Family Fun Night at 4 p.m. Oct. 31. Goblins, crafts, a costume parade and a reading of Hershel and the Hanukkah are included. For more information or to make a reservation, call Dana Coale at (623) 856-7191.

Craft for a cause

Crafters will make adult beanie caps for overseas care packages or baby caps for the Los Ninos Children’s Hospital at 5 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Luke Air Force Base Library. No skills are required. National Disability Employment Awareness

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. NDEAM is to enlist public support and interest in the employment of workers with disabilities who are otherwise qualified. Several events have been planned to include a workshop seminar Oct. 12 in the Ballroom of Bldg. 750, a reading Oct. 18 at the library, a Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital visit Oct. 19 and luncheon Oct. 26 at Club Five Six. Air Force Band performs

The U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will perform Oct. 24 in the Mountain Ridge High School gym at 22800 N. 67th Ave., Glendale; and Oct. 25 in the Arizona State University Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium at 1200 S. Absentee ballots

States will continue to accept absentee ballot applications until the end of October. Military members, Defense Department civilians and dependents can register for an absentee ballot online at www.fvap.gov.

Hiring heroes

The Recruit Military Veteran Hiring Fair is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale. For more information, call Chris Adams at (513) 677-7055.

MilPDS shut down

The Air Force Personnel Center will shut down the Military Personnel Data System for a month in order to conduct a system upgrade. In preparation for the outage, Luke Air Force Base military personnel are encouraged to complete all personnel actions which may be due during the shutdown by Oct. 29 to ensure required actions are processed and validated by AFPC prior to the shutdown. Actions initiated afterward will not be processed until the system reactivates January 2013. The Luke Military Personnel Section will extend office hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning Monday. Smooth Move

A Smooth Move seminar is 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 30 and Nov. 27 at the 56th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center. For more information, call (623) 856-6550.

Martial arts training

The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program will mentor the first all-Airmen instructor lead MCMAP tan and grey belt course at Luke Air Force Base 6:30 to 8 a.m. Nov. 26 through Dec. 21. The class is limited to 20 people, includes a health screening and paperwork due by Nov. 16. For more information, call the Bryant Fitness Center at (623) 856-6241.

Free park pass

The National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands is offering active-duty military members a free annual pass for up to four adults to more than 2,000 sites across the U.S. including parks, wildlife refuges, forests and other public lands.
