New TSP contributions open

Active-duty members of the Air Force, Army and Navy are now able to contribute to the Roth Thrift Savings Plan as part of investment planning through the member’s online MyPay account or submit a TSP-U-1 form to the finance office. The after-tax contributions will be electronically deducted from the service member’s pay account. The National Guard and Reserve should be able to make Roth TSP contributions sometime in 2013. MOAA dinner

The Military Officers Association of America, Luke Chapter, November dinner meeting is 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Club Five-Six. Social hour is 5 p.m. and dinner is 6 p.m. Dr. Alex White is guest speaker. He spent six years under Nazi control and was No. 270 on Schindler’s List. All active-duty, retired and warrant officers and their spouses are invited to attend. New audio book program

Download a new app and get free audio books for a limited time from Catalist Digital. Free ear buds are available at the Luke Air Force Base Library. The user ID is LUKEAFB and the password is LUKEAFB. For more information, call the library at (623) 856-7191.

Thrift shop

The thrift shop is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for consignments and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for sales Wednesday and Friday in Bldg. 750. The staff accepts clothing, household goods, furniture, small appliances, hardware, etc. For more information on items that are not currently being accepted or prior to dropping off large items, call the Thrift Shop at (623) 935-5782 during business hours. All profits are donated to the Luke Officer Spouses Club Welfare Fund to help finance welfare projects throughout the Luke community.

Special-duty recruiting team briefings

An Air Education and Training Command special duty recruiting team briefing will be held 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday at the base theater. The team will discuss positions for military training instructors, military training leaders, professional military education instructors and Air Force recruiters. Spouses are invited to attend. Senior airmen with at least 35 months time in service through master sergeants with fewer than 16 years total active federal military service may be eligible to apply. Since some specialty areas have varied rank needs and requirements the briefing is open to everyone on the installation. For more information, call Master Sgt. Dustin Withrow at (623) 856-2985.

Breast cancer awareness

The 56th Medical Group is offering after-hours well-woman appointments 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in October and mammograms every Tuesday and Thursday in October in observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For more information or to make an appointment, call (623) 856-CARE (2273).

Halloween family fun night

The Luke Air Force Base Library will feature a Halloween Family Fun Night at 4 p.m. Oct. 31. Goblins, crafts, a costume parade and a reading of Hershel and the Hanukkah are included. For more information or to make a reservation, call Dana Coale at (623) 856-7191.

Craft for a cause

Crafters will make adult beanie caps for overseas care packages or baby caps for the Los Ninos Children’s Hospital at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Luke Air Force Base Library. No skills are required. Smooth Move

A Smooth Move seminar is 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 30 and Nov. 27 at the 56th Force Support Squadron Airman and Family Readiness Center. For more information, call (623) 856-6550.

Air Force Band performs

The U.S. Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Mountain Ridge High School gym at 22800 N. 67th Ave., Glendale; and Thursday in the Arizona State University Grady Gammage Memorial Auditorium at 1200 S.
