Adopt family for holidays

Operation Warm Heart, the Luke Air Force Base adopt-a-family or child program organized by Luke first sergeants, is one of the ways of taking care of Airmen in need during the holidays and is anonymous.

Financially challenged families at Luke are identified to first sergeants and each is assigned a family number. Any person or group can adopt a child, family or families by donating requested items. Information such as children’s ages, gender, clothing sizes or special gift requests are provided to make shopping easier. The items are then given to the families at the end of the campaign before Christmas.

To adopt a family, go to the base exchange entrance and select an angel from the Christmas tree with the name of a family or individual. Children’s ages, sizes and gift requests will be listed to make shopping easier. The tree will be up beginning Nov. 19.

Purchase the items, attach the angel to the bag of purchased items, and place it in a donation box located near the Christmas tree. Gifts should be unwrapped and labeled with the adopted child’s assigned number. The assigned family number can be found on the back of the angel card in the lower right hand corner. Gifts should be placed in an appropriate package for transport such as an open cardboard box or for personal checks or gift cards, an unsealed envelope.

The first sergeants ask that personnel who wish to adopt a family provide a minimum of one gift for each child (parental gifts are optional).

Personal checks should be made payable to Luke AFB First Sergeant’s Council or Operation Warm Heart.

For more information on adopting a family, call Master Sgt. Larry Morgan at (623) 856-8546 or Master Sgt. Renee Huggins at (623) 856-3304.
