Library perks up offerings

There are plenty of changes happening at the Luke Air Force Base Library. Part of the library’s Main Reading Room was recently modified to make room for a “Laptop Lounge” complete with comfortable chairs, study tables, vending machines and, of course, Wi-Fi. Members can study, relax or make use of the multiple media the library has to offer, whether it’s DVDs, CDs, Playaways, online databases or books.

In addition, the library’s Quiet Study Room has been upgraded to accommodate classes from Park University and Wayland Baptist University. With funds from the education office, an overhead computer projector, new tables and white boards were purchased and installed. Evening classes began in late October. Other on-base organizations also have the option to sign out the room.

As part of the library’s many online services, its integrated library system, which serves as an online catalog and circulation program, is going from a server set-up to a Cloud system. This means that library customers will be able to access not only the base library’s holdings, but millions of full text articles and full text books online with one search.

“The ability to easily access so many articles and books is a great help for students and researchers of all types and ages,” said Katie Gillen, 56th Force Support Squadron Library director.

For more information, stop by the library in Bldg. 219, at 7424 North Homer Drive or call (623) 856-7191.
