Base tax center seeks volunteers for 2013 tax season

The Luke Air Force Base Tax Center will open its doors to file returns for the Luke Air Force Base community Jan. 14, 2013.

Last year, the tax center filed more than 1,800 federal and state returns, saving the Luke community over $300,000. To offer this service once again, the tax center requires the support of Luke community volunteers.

The tax center relies solely on volunteers (active duty, civilians and retirees) who become certified tax preparers through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Volunteers must become certified tax preparers by completing the required Web-based training, even if they have volunteered in the past.

Classroom training will be available in December or January at Luke for those who do not complete the online certification. Once certified, volunteers will be asked to work at least four hours per week in the tax center from Jan. 14 through April 15, 2013.

This is an opportunity for Airmen, civilians and retirees to serve the Luke community and learn a valuable life skill. For more information, call Beverly Dennie at (623) 856-6901 or email beverly.dennie.1@us.af.mil.
