AFSA meeting

LOSC event

CGOC elections

The Company Grade Officer Council will hold elections for the executive board at 6 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Club Five Six Officer’s Lounge. Santa to be at Luke Library

Airman cookie drive

Cookies for the 2012 Airman Cookie Drive will be collected 7 to 10 a.m. Monday at Club Five Six. Those interested in making cookies must email LukeCookies@yahoo.com. Cookies will be distributed to Airmen staying on Luke Air Force Base for the holidays.

Rental housing on base

Possible Litchfield Road closure

Litchfield Park plans to build a pedestrian underpass on the north side of the intersection of Litchfield Road and Wigwam Boulevard that may result in a full closure of Litchfield Road north of Wigwam Boulevard for two months beginning in January. Transition seminar

The Airman and Family Readiness Center is featuring a Marketing Yourself for a Second Career seminar 8 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13 in the base theater. Transition is a part of all military careers. The seminar is for those contemplating retirement in one to five years or those who may be counseling someone about to transition. It is an in-depth, all-in-one resource for the transition process. The speaker is retired Col. Dan Koslov, Military Officers Association of America transition services deputy director. It includes comprehensive information on the retirement decision itself, employer perceptions, the competition, resumes, cover letters, job search, networking, career fairs, interview techniques, salary negotiation, benefits packages, the current job market and other topics. Spouses are encouraged to attend. All who attend will receive a free copy of “Marketing Yourself for a Second Career.” For more information or to register, call the A&FRC at (623) 856-6550.

Adopt-a-family

Adopt a child, family or families by donating requested items. A Christmas tree with paper angels attached is in front of the base exchange with children’s names, ages, gender, clothing sizes, and/or special gift requests to make shopping easier. Donating individuals select an angel, purchase the listed items, attach the angel to the bag of unwrapped, labeled gifts and place it in a donation box located near the Christmas tree by Dec. 14. Gift cards, cash or check gifts should be placed in an appropriate package for transport (i.e. an open cardboard box or an unsealed envelope). Unsung heroes

The Medal of Honor Foundation, representing the fewer than 85 remaining Medal of Honor recipients, is sending out the annual call for everyday citizens who’ve acted heroically. It’s called Citizen Service Before Self Honors and is in its sixth year of honoring unsung citizen heroes who have either saved lives in an act of bravery, or offered some extraordinary ongoing service to others.
