No Thunderbolt for two weeks

Annual wing warrior run

The 2.2-mile 3rd annual wing warrior run will take place at 7 a.m. Jan. 2 at the north end of the Luke Air Force Base runway. The run is mandatory for active-duty Air Force personnel who are not on leave or temporary duty. Air Force personnel must wear Air Force exercise gear. Civilian personnel are welcome to join in. Dress appropriately for the weather. Transportation will be available 5:45 a.m. at Bldg. 1150 and the flightline kitchen. All participating personnel must be formed up by 6:56 a.m. For more information, call Capt. Anthony Arocha at (623) 856-6031.

Unsung heroes

The Medal of Honor Foundation, representing the fewer than 85 remaining Medal of Honor recipients, is sending out the annual call for everyday citizens who’ve acted heroically. It’s called Citizen Service Before Self Honors and is in its sixth year of honoring unsung citizen heroes who have either saved lives in an act of bravery, or offered some extraordinary ongoing service to others. Fitness center renovations

The Bryant Fitness Center floor is undergoing renovations through Dec. 31. There will be limited access to the main entrance. Signs will be posted for alternate entrance and exit points. For more information, call the fitness center at (623) 856-6241.

Tax center needs volunteers

The Luke Air Force Base Tax Center will open its doors to file returns for Luke community members Jan. 14, 2013. To offer this service, the tax center relies on volunteers (active-duty, civilians and retirees) who become certified tax preparers through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Once certified, volunteers will be asked to work at least four hours per week in the tax center from Jan. 14 through April 15, 2013. Job fair

The 2013 Hiring Our Heroes is a free job fair for veterans sponsored by the American Legion and conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Big Read

Road closure advisory

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation contractor has temporarily closed Reems Road between Northern Avenue and Olive Avenue until 11 p.m. Feb. 1, 2013, to facilitate roadway reconstruction activities. During this time Olive Avenue and Northern Avenue will remain open. For more information, call the 24-hour Construction Hotline at (480) 350-9288.

Munitions storage closure

The 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron Munitions storage area will close Jan. 11 through 14, 2013, to conduct a 100 percent munitions change-of-inventory. Only emergency issues will be handled during this time. The last date for munitions turn-in is 5 p.m. Jan. 9, 2013. Normal operations will resume Jan. 15, 2013. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Thrift shop holiday hours

The thrift shop is closed for the holidays and will resume normal business hours at 10 a.m. Jan. 9, 2013.
