Savings on homes
Balfour Beatty Communities (Luke family housing) is currently offering three-bedroom renovated homes for $1,100 per month with a one-year lease for E-1 through E-5 active-duty military members only. With an allotted base allowance for housing of $1,287 for those ranks and $1,461 for E-5, members can save money through the basic allowance for housing. Trip reduction survey
The annual trip reduction survey will be conducted Wednesday through Feb. 13 online at https://luke-leep.ursokr.com. Base personnel, minus deployed Airmen, are asked to take the two-minute survey. The survey is required by Maricopa County Air Quality Department, and participation will be tracked. The data will be used to analyze and plan to reduce single occupancy vehicle trips.

Craft time
The Luke Air Force Base craft group is making decorative, edible candy wreaths for Valentine’s Day. Directions and some supplies will be provided at 5 p.m. Jan. 30 at the library. For more information or to sign up, call Dana Coale at (623) 856-7191.

Basic car care class
A basic car care class for participants ages 16 and older teaches basic car care and preventive maintenance at 2 p.m. Sunday. The new class will be offered at 2 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month beginning in February. For more information, call (623) 856-6107.

Auto hobby shop hours
Beginning Feb. 3 the auto hobby shop hours of operation will change to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and be closed Sunday and Monday. For more information, call (623) 856-6107

After-school program
The YP After 3 Program is for parents who are looking for after-school activities for children and teens, ages 6 to 18 who are youth center program members.
The program promotes life skills, a sense of belonging, and a safe and supervised setting. YP annual membership is required to participate in the program.
Membership is $20 per child. Weekly fees for after-school child care are based on total family income. For more information, call the youth center at (623) 856-7470.

Golf tournament
A 2013 Women’s History Month golf tournament begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. March 1 at Falcon Dunes Golf Course. The cost is $40 per person and includes lunch. Prizes will be given for 1st and 2nd-place, closest to the pin and longest drive. Mulligans will also be for sale. Registration deadline is Feb. 22. For more information, call 1st Lt. National prayer breakfast
There will be a panel of players from the Arizona Diamondbacks, to include Paul Goldschmidt, and San Francisco Giants speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Jan. 31 at Club Five Six. An autograph session will follow. Tickets are $5 each and can be obtained through the unit first sergeant or the chapel.

Blood drive
United Blood Services will be on Luke Air Force Base conducting a blood drive for medical group Airmen 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 28 in the 56th Medical Group Assembly Room, for the base community 10 to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Luke theater, and maintenance group Airmen 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the 310th Aircraft Maintenance Unit. Troops to teachers
A Troops to Teachers counselor will be available at the Airman and Family Readiness Center 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. Those interested in transitioning to K-12 teaching careers after the military is invited to stop by to hear more about the services available with the program. State offices provide counseling and assistance regarding state certification requirements, routes to certifications, and employment referrals. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Security awareness alert
A security information file is a collection of unfavorable information which could call into question an individual’s loyalty, judgment, reliability or trustworthiness to protect classified information. The reasons a SIF is created are outlined in Defense Department 5200.2R, Appendix 8. Those include criminal conduct, drug involvement, alcohol abuse and more. This file is established by an individual’s unit commander and could result in the suspension or revocation of a security clearance. This adversely affects those whose jobs require a security clearance by not being retained in the career field or considered for a future position as a federal employee. Job opening
The administrative assistant to the chief master sgt. of the Air Force position is open and accepting packages to apply. All technical and master sergeants who apply will be considered. Military children scholarships
Applications for the Scholarships for Military Children Program for students enrolling full-time in the fall of 2013 in an undergraduate program leading to a bachelor’s degree are now being accepted. For more information, go to www.militaryscholar.org.

Clothing donations
The 56th Security Force Squadron is collecting clothing in good condition for infants and toddlers in a drop box in Bldg. 179 to send to children in Afghanistan. For more information, call Master Sgt. Patrick Smith at (623) 856-6334.

Biggest Loser competition
The health and wellness center is conducting a Luke’s Biggest Loser contest Monday through May 24. All contestants must attend the initial registration, weigh-in and workshop at 6:30 a.m. or 4:30 p.m. Monday at the HAWC, Bldg. 700. For more information, call (623) 856-6241.
