Paul Johnson, 56th Force Support Squadron personal trainer, instructs Julie Kenkel on proper technique during a workout at the Luke Air Force Base Warrior Fitness Center. Johnson is one of two personal trainers available at the Bryant Fitness Center who train military members, dependents and retirees. With 2013 in full swing, many are looking for the best way to achieve the New Year’s resolution of getting in better shape.

The Luke Air Force Base Bryant Fitness Center knows how important physical fitness is Air Force wide. That’s why they’re offering free sessions with a personal trainer.

There are currently two trainers on staff at the fitness center – Simeon Maxwell and Paul Johnson. Both are certified personal trainers, as well as CPR and first aid certified.

Sherri Biringer, 56th Force Support Squadron fitness specialist supervisor, says personal trainers can give that extra push when it comes to fitness.

“Whether you want to improve your cardio health, get stronger or work on a diet plan, trainers will tailor plans to each individual’s needs,” Biringer said.

In the 56th Fighter Wing, 6.8 percent of Airmen in 2012 failed their PT test, according to Dion Perry, 56th Force Support Squadron fitness assessment cell lead technician.

That’s why, Biringer said, it’s more important than ever to be “fit to fight,” and a personal trainer can help you get there.

“A trainer can get you motivated, give you guidance and help you hone your cardio and muscular abilities” she said. “They may even be able to help you pass a PT test.”

A better score on a PT test is exactly what happened for Staff Sgt. Angela White, 56th Maintenance Operation Squadron analyst. The personal trainers at the fitness center helped White in more ways than one.

“Not only did I improve my PT test score,” she said, “I also learned different ways to work out that helped keep things new and fun.”

Staying up to speed with PT scores is more important than ever, and the personal trainers at the fitness center are available to assist in getting that high score.

For more information on beginning a fitness program with the aid of a personal trainer, call the Bryant Fitness Center at (623) 856-6241.
