The ball, themed “At the crossroads of freedom and equality,” was part of the African American Heritage Month activities and highlighted the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and the March on Washington in 1963 when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his memorable “I have a dream” speech.
