Assumption of command

Maj. Kathryn Roman will assume command of the 56th Equipment Maintenance Squadron in a ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in Hangar 485.

LOSC raffle

AFAS and sequestration

The Air Force Aid Society will not be shut down by the current threat of government furloughs and cutbacks in service. AFAS is a private, nonprofit charitable organization that exists solely to assist military members and their families and will continue to operate fully despite the current federal sequestration. Whether assistance for emergency travel, unpaid rent, overdue utility bills, etc., AFAS will continue to provide full service to the Luke Air Force Base community. Community programs like Child Care for PCS, Give Parents A Break, Bundles for Babies, or Car Care Because We Care will continue to be fully funded. AFSA is staffed by federal government employees. These employees’ hours may be affected in the event of the furlough; however, AFAS assistance will continue to be available as in the past. St. Paddy’s Day savings

Diners using a Military Star® Card at Luke Air Force Base Exchange restaurants Sunday will get 20 percent taken off the bill for St. Patrick’s Day. Military Star® Card holders also receive a 5 cents a gallon discount every time they fuel up at the Express.

Keystone Club /AF Teen Council

Teens gain valuable leadership and service experience in academic success, career exploration and community service in Keystone Club and the Air Force teen council. Members elect officers, solve issues impacting teens and voice concerns to the highest level of Air Force leadership. They create activities for the center, plan and implement community service projects and participate in life skills workshops.

Military youth of the year

This is both the Boys & Girls Club and the Air Force premier youth recognition program for Luke Air Force Base Youth Center members. The program promotes and celebrates service to the club, community and family; academic performance; moral character; life goals; poise; and public speaking ability. The youth of the year program fosters young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities. For more information, call (623) 856-7470.

A day in the west
