Oct. 7: Dream date, evening on the town offered Luke, Willie Airmen

Circa 1955, From the pages of the Jet Sun

A beautiful girl, an afternoon and evening of dining and dancing, a new car to drive, with all expenses paid. What more could an Airman ask for?

All he need ask for is the pleasure of escorting a lovely lass on this fabulous date. It’s all part of the newest television show to come to Phoenix.

Each Thursday, starting yesterday and continuing for the next 25 weeks, an Airman from Luke and one from Williams air force bases will be selected to appear on KPHO-TV’s “Luncheon in Phoenix.” Each contestant will have just one minute to convince a lovely young lady guest that he should be her escort for the day.

The lucky winner will be chosen by the Channel 5 viewing audience. To vote, a viewer calls the KPHO-TV studio and states his choice of the two contenders.

“Luncheon in Phoenix,” produced by Lew King Productions, will be telecast each Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon from poolside at the Hotel Desert Sun in Phoenix.

For his date with the local lovely, the lucky Airman will receive all free:

• Lunch at the Desert Sun, with swimming following.

• Admission to a downtown movie.

• Dinner at a well-known local restaurant.

• Dancing.

• A new car at his disposal.

Sponsors of the program will pick up the tab.
