MOAA meeting

The Luke Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America Annual Auction Night dinner is April 11. Social hour is 5 p.m., dinner is 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m. at Club Five Six. All funds raised in the silent auction, live auction and raffle go to the scholarship fund for outstanding Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps members in West Valley high schools. All active-duty, retired and warrant officers of all military services, to include U.S. Public Health Service and National Oceanic, and Atmospheric Administration, and their spouses and guests are invited to attend. Get moving competition

Get up in elevation to get down in pounds in the “Phoenix to Flagstaff” competition. Receive a pedometer to wear when not exercising and while doing cardiovascular from April 1 through 30. Those steps will be converted to feet and moves participants to a higher elevation. Registration is 8 or 11:30 a.m. or 4 p.m. March 29 at the Luke Air Force Base Health and Wellness center, Bldg 700. TA alternative

With the recent loss of tuition assistance, the Luke Air Force Base Education Center has developed a one-hour briefing on finding alternate funding sources. The briefings are 9 a.m. April 9 and May 7, and 2 p.m. April 25 in Room 3148 of Bldg. 1150.This briefing initially will be limited to active duty only. Lt. Dan Band

The Lt. Dan Band will perform free March 29 at the 755th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Hangar 269 on Yuma Street at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson. Doors open at 5 p.m. Carnival family games are free. Food, beverages and beer are available for purchase.

Keystone Club /AF Teen Council

Teens gain valuable leadership and service experience in academic success, career exploration and community service in Keystone Club and the Air Force teen council. Members elect officers, solve issues impacting teens and voice concerns to the highest level of Air Force leadership. They create activities for the center, plan and implement community service projects, and participate in life skills workshops and meetings.

Military youth of the year

This is both the Boys & Girls Club and the Air Force’s premier youth recognition program for Luke Air Force Base Youth Center members. The program promotes and celebrates service to the club, community and family; academic performance; moral character; life goals; poise; and public speaking ability.
The youth of the year program fosters young people’s character, personal growth and leadership qualities. For more information, call (623) 856-7470.

A day in the west

Club Five Six events

Homework assistance

Youth receive free homework assistance at the Luke Air Force Base Youth Center. Assistance for tweens, ages 9 to 12, is 3 to 4:30 p.m. and for teens is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, call (623) 856-7470.
