April: Sexual Assault Awareness Month

12 main reasons incidents go unreported:

  • Didn’t know how to report
  • Feared retaliation or that the incident would happen again
  • Did not trust the reporting process
  • Concern over protecting identity
  • Did not want to cause trouble in the unit
  • Fear of being treated badly if reported (44 percent female – 31 percent male responses)
  • Didn’t want family to know
  • Didn’t want superiors to know
  • Lack of proof that incident happened
  • Didn’t want fellow Airmen to know
  • Not clear it was a crime or that harm was intended
  • Did not think it was serious

Seven main reasons victims file a report:

  • To get help after the incident
  • To get medical care after the incident
  • To catch or find the person
  • Because it is a crime
  • To prevent further crimes against the victim by that person
  • To punish the person
  • To stop this person from committing other crimes against anyone else

We Own it … We’ll Solve it … Together

Stand in Their Shoes and Make a Difference Shoe Decorating Contest

Sponsored by the Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Office Team

Decorate any type of shoe, sandal or boot in support of all victims, survivors and their families. Provide the artist’s name, squadron and duty phone number on the sole of the shoe.

When the shoe decoration is complete, drop it off at the Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Office, located in Bldg. 1150, Room 1052. All submissions are due no later than April 24.

The shoes will be displayed at a date and location to be determined.
